My philips mp3 player shows updating and it got stuck. its neither switching off or being recognised by comp...wat to do now

Hi pimmi31,

Sounds like you could benefit from performing a firmware update on your unit. Instructions are listed below, and you can also visit http://ow.ly/64ye8 for more information like FAQ's, manuals, software, etc.

Hope this helps! Let me know by rating this solution. Thanks!
date your player

Your player is controlled by an internal program called the firmware. Newer versions of the

firmware may have been released after you have purchased your player.

A software program called Philips Device Manager enables you to update the firmware on

your device if a new firmware is available on your PC. Install Philips Device Manager from the supplied CD or download the latest version from www.philips.com/support (see above link for product specific page).

5.1 Manually verify whether your firmware is up

to date

1 Connect your player to the computer.

2 Launch Philips Device Manager from Start > Programs > Philips Digital Audio

Player > SA31XX > Philips SA31XX Device Manager.

3 Make sure you are connected to the internet.

4 Click Update.

> Philips SA31XX Device Manager will check whether a new firmware is available on the

Internet and install it on your player.

5 When Update completed appears on the screen, click OK and disconnect the player.

> A message Updating firmware will be displayed.

The player will automatically restart after the firmware has been completely updated. Your player
is now ready for use again.

Command disk not foud while operating

My suspect is your DVD player has aborted a previous firmware upgrade process. Usually DVD players use firmwares burned on a DVD/CD, the complete process takes a couple of attempts to successfully flash the firmware.

The best way to get the command disk or ROM disks is to check the Philips website's support section for your particular DVD player model. Unfortunately, Philips does not offer command disk / firmware patches for all models.

Last but not least.. take your DVD player to the nearest Philips Customer care. They should be able to fix it.

Firmware

The firmware has corrupted.

Run the Philips Device Manager, installed from the driver CD.

Connect the PSS110 to the mains and PC, when the Philips Device Manager registers that the device is connected click on the Restore option, and follow the on-screen prompts.

This will format the device and replace the corrupted firmware.

Get the firmware update from the philips website

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

Does not turn on properly

Firmware manager should solve this problem.

  1. First Make sure that you have your PC connected to the internet, as the firmware manager will download the firmware from the firmware server, it is necessary that you have the PC online during the entire the process.
  2. Run the application on your PC at Start->Programs->Philips Firmware Manager->Philips Firmware Manger.
  3. Connect the GoGear player with the PC in normal mode. Switch on the player.
  4. Firmware Manager will start the upgrade process after the player is detected.
  5. Enter the serial number of your device. You can find the serial number as a 14 digital code printed on the sticker near the USB connector of the device e.g. SFxxxxxxxxxxxx and then click NEXT to proceed.
  6. Click the START button, select the firmware and click OK.
  7. The upgrade process will continue to download firmware.
  8. Once the upgrade process is completed, click FINISH to close the application.
  9. You may now disconnect the GoGear Player from your computer.
