Inspect the jet thru the suction pipe or the removable plug if the pipe isn't inline with the center of the impeller. The jet is very small, and easy to get something stuck in there. Then prime and leave the pressure pipe closest to the outlet slightly loose to let air out. Once you get good pressure you can tighten the pipe. Sometimes you have to prime more than once to get all the air out of the well pipe.

SOURCE: Gas line is leaking.

You want to be very careful not to make any sparks while working on this. The obvious is smoking, banging metal tools around, etc. keep cell phones AWAY from the area. Pick up some rubber fuel line from the parts store. Be prepared for some gas leakage, have a plastic pan under the leak. Disconnect the line at the tank, have a piece of new hose ready to push on over the line to as close to the tank as you can, have the end away from the tank plugged up temporarily with a pencil or something that fits snug in it, then remove the rubber hose on the filter, and connect new line from tank to filter, check for leaks, hopefully it is the rubber line you replaced, or the end of the metal line, so the new hose will hopefully cover the corroded leaking area. Clamp and Dry off area and see if you can spot any leaks.

SOURCE: Hayward sand filter leaks

You can try different epoxy's but they usually won't hold as the filter expands when running this will break any seal where you put it.You can check into warrentys. A lot of these filters had good warrentys on the tanks that went longer than valve or internal's. if you have install dates and model #'s. Check on line with Hayward.

Worse comes to worse you can drill out a small hole amd using stanless steel go with a bolt and nut with washers and rubber washers in the middle. when you set it seal it all with silicone and after it is tight let it set for eight hours or so. Good luck.

How do you fill up filter after changing sand

Let's back up a few steps so that I am not assuming you have completed certain steps.
1. You would have had to disconnect all plumbing coming into the valve assembly on top of the filter.
2. You would have had to remove the screws holding the valve assembly and remove it from the top of the filter.
3. You would have had to remove all the sand from the filter.
4. You would have had to verify that the sand pipe and the laterals in the bottom of your filter unit are still connected and in the proper alignment.
5. You would have had to replace with new sand using the amount that is recommended for the size of your filter making sure as you filled with sand not to get the sand pipe and laterals out of alignment.
6. You would next have to put the value assembly back on and aligned in the same orientation when you removed it.
7. You would next re-connect all the plumbing hopefully utilizing slip-joint PVC connections so it will simplify this process next time you go to replace your sand.
8. Turn your pump back on and check/verify that you don't have any water leaking anywhere and your filter should be taken care of the rest so you are done and can move on to the next task on the honey due list.

Hi love ranch....
You have one or three problems.
1...Air leak on the suction side of the pump, loose filter housing, air leak at mechanical seal, crack in suction pipe, etc...check all suction piping for tight fitting fittings or glue joints.
2...Worn Pump...replace pump..(Doubt this one is your problem) unless you have a sand problem
3...Clogged intake filter...replace filter

Why is sand shooting back into pool

Inside the sand filter there are laterals that are PVC pipes with many narrow slots along their length. If a lateral is broken then sand will not be stopped by the lateral. Another possibility is that the part these laterals screw into is broken and sand leaks through. I hope this helps.

Done every thing suggested. Still doenst prime. should I fill sand filter?

No prime = either impeller problem, air leak, or blockage on output(bad filter or bad valve) My first choice is dirty filter. Second choice is impeller. Both easy to check.
If you have checked those than you probably have an air leak. Hold a very slow running hose over all pipe joints running into filter, while motor is running. Most likely place is the screw in fitting on front of pump. The water from hose will temporarily seal leak and it should prime.

How do i change the sand in the hayward model sp 711

Hello, 1 You need to unscrew the drain plug and screen (if it is still there!) at the base of the filter. 2 You can reclaim most of the sand by letting the filter drain through a sieve (lots of work) or use new sand. 3 Uncouple union joints or couplers that attach to filter head. 4 Remove filter head. 5 You can try pulling some sand out of the top. However, do not damage the filter fingers in the sand. 6 Use a hose to blast the sand out the bottom drain. 7 Inspect all fingers, replace if necessary. 8 After all is cleaned out, place finger mount inside filter. Cover top of mount with a cup or similar to keep the new sand out of the finger assembly. 9 Replace drain plug and screen. 10 Fill filter halfway with water. 11 Slowly pour sand in and spread evenly. 12 Remove mount cover. 13 Reinstall head, unions and couplings. 14 Prime pump and test for leaks.
Good Luck

How do i change the sand in the filter? I am getting sand in my pool.

You will simply remove the old sand from your pool filter and follow the instructions from your users manual like you are adding sand for the first time. In case you don't have it, I am going to paraphrase it for you below.

1. Be sure correct amount of filter sand media is in tank and
that all connections have been made and are secure.
IMPORTANT: To prevent unnecessary strain on piping system and valving, always shut off pump before switching Filter Control Valve positions.
The correct amout of sand can be determined with this link: http://www.backyardcitypools.com/pool-filters/Filter-Sand-Requirements.htm

2. Set your controls to the backwash position.

3. Prime and start pump according to pump instructions. (be sure all suction and return lines are open), allowing the filter tank to fill with water.

4. Once water flow is steady out the waste line, run the pump
for at least 2 minutes. This initial backwashing of the filter is recommended to remove any impurities or fine sand particles in the sand media.

5. Turn pump off and set valve to RINSE position. Start pump and operate until water in sight glass is clear—about 1/2 to 1 minute. Turn pump off, set valve to FILTER position and restart pump. Your filter is now operating in the normal filter mode, filtering particles from the pool water.

6. Adjust pool suction and return valves to achieve desired
flow. Check system and filter for water leaks and tighten connections, bolts, nuts, as required.

7. Set your filter to the "filter" position.
