Kenmore 110.24662300 washer timer problem

I have a Kenmore 110.24662300 washer that works fine on normal and heavy duty settings up until it is time for the spin cycle. The machine stalls and makes a slight humming noise and if I open the lid and press down the lid switch the machine will begind to spin with a little help by hand. Spins fine it I the dial over to the delicate setting. Repair man said it's the timer. Is this correct and if so is it easy to fix myself? Also, I have a 110.4767290 washer with broken transmission. Can i use the timer from that machine in this one?

SOURCE: No agitation in the delicate and regular modes.

does you washer have a delicate, or normal speed adjustment switch, if it does make sure its not between setting or it will sound like a machine gun......you may need to replace that switch

SOURCE: washer makes bumping sound when agitating - if I

I would check the washer to see if it's completely level, an unlevel machine can cause problems like that, if you don't have a level any kind of small round device will do just place it on top of the washer and see which way it tries to roll. The direction it rolls to is the low side see if you can adjust the levelers until it doesn't roll. A nickel turned up on it's edge works great for checking for level.

SOURCE: Kenmore 90 Series only agitates on heavy-duty cycle

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Replaced lid switch a year ago, and the heavy duty cycle works fine. However, the permanent press/delicate and normal cycles do not work (tub just keeps filling/emptying water). My research indicates that...

I agree, it is most likely a timer problem. Possibly "rust" build-up.

See the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washer for troubleshooting and diagnostics procedures.

Timer only works on heavy cycle not on normal model #11024632300

Could be a bad timer or loose contacts.
Unplug the washer.
Open the control console.
Remove the wire harness connector from the timer and re-insert it.
Also advance your timer manually 360 degrees around several times. This can cause stuck contacts to work correctly.
If this does not correct your problem you will need a new timer.

Washer does not work at regular speed, it works on other setting

Since the machine works in two of the three speeds the problem points to either the timer or the switch that sets the speed.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Go to the control panel category and see their diagram and list of switches and parts.

These aren't that difficult to replace but they aren't inexpensive.

Won't drain, rinse, or spin

That will be a lid switch problem

24642300 doesn't spin

  • yes it does sound like the timer is bad.
  • the timer has small contacts in it (sort of like a music box) that lift and rest in certain places.
  • these contacts may not mate properly as the timer goes around slowly in the normal operation.
  •  but when you manually turn it is a faster turn and the contacts will fall faster and get a better connection.
