SOURCE: need to remove speaker grill on pioneer speaker
If it is a 95-97, the speaker grills are not designed to come off by themselves. You have to actually take off the door panel. There should be screws all the way around the outside as well as 2 larger screws in the middle of the door covered by plastic caps. Remove all of those and you can finally get access to the speakers themselves. Hope this helps....
SOURCE: How do I remove the cloth grill cover from the front of speaker?
Some speaker manufacturers design their boxes with non-removable front grills. Be thankful that you can remove the back because I've seen these sealed as well. Once inside, the speakers should be mounted from the inside (mounting screws on inside) compared to front mounted. IF they are not then either you're not using the proper method to remove the grill OR it's glued in place and will require breaking the glue bond to release the grill. One note to remember...non-removable grills can mean the manufacturer has something to hide.
SOURCE: removing cover from speaker
pull off the cloth cover by using your nail or a screwdriver to get behind it. its simply a push fit cover.then you can acess the screws. there are 4 deep in the holes where the cloth covers connected to the speaker and there are 4 holding the actual speaker to the face that are plainly visible once cloth front cover is removed.

SOURCE: Removing grill covers of Clarion 6.5" marine speakers
Put a piece of cardboard next to the speaker to protect your boats finish. Then use a flat bladed screw driver to gently pry the grill covers off. you may need to work your way around the perimeter, with a little bit of effort it will pop off. There will be 4 screws under the grills holding the speaker to the boat which are easy to remove.
