SOURCE: my poulan snow blower keeps breaking sheer pins in the wheels,

1)try replacing them with a heavy duty "roll-pin"
these are available from auto parts stores.
two types are available.
first is the "single-roll",second is the"multi-rolled"with many layers to it.

try both they're cheap.

2)try not hitting things with the blades
3)dont force the machine in heavy wet ,or frozen icy packed snow.

SOURCE: The auger on my snow

Hi, I will try to help you with a few suggestions that could be the problem. I have found that sometimes the shear pins break, but the ends of the pin do not fall out. Have you tried to remove them by hammering them off? Another possibility, if that is not the problem, then the auger gearbox might have a damaged gear or maybe just a broken or loose bolt or pin. If that is the problem then you need to take it apart. If that is not the problem you can check the lube level by removing the plug on the outside of the gear box and check for lubrication. Whatever type of lube that machine uses should be even with the bottom of the plug hole. If it is low or there is none at all add what is recommended in your owners manual. That is just preventive maintenance. But I think it might be just the ends of the pins not having fallen out. If that is the problem then you will need a punch to remove the center of the pin that is on the auger shaft. Hope this is helpful a bit, at least it is something to check out. Best regards and good luck.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SINGLE STAGE SNOW BLOWER VS A DUAL OR MULTI STAGE SNOW THROWER

Single stage has one rotating blade that collects and exhausts via upper shoot.

The two stage works best!!

plus my son showed me a neet trick to use a timing light attached to plug wire and 12volt battery you turn the advance adj on light point light at suspected bearing or scuff point and you can see it plain as day (engine running of course ) use extreeme caution when doing this !!!!

There are cotter pins on the second stage blower shaft. I would inspect these. Also, check sheer pins in front auger assembly.

What is a snow blower?

A snow blower gets rid of snow. There are one stage blowers (called snow throwers) that just throw the snow away. There are also two stage blowers that have one stage where the snow is put into the machine and then a second stage where the snow is blown away.

Check this page,
Two stage snow blowers all tend to have sheer pins
I would suspect that the holes seen in the picture are for the sheer pin, check with club cadet, figure same as auger pins, if so feel for the hole with your finger then inser a short nail till you feel a rough spot then tap with a hammer till it comes out, otherwise you have to take the mess apart completely.
