Question about Singer Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Singer sewing machine. Have dusted, oiled adjusted over and over. May work OK a bit, then goes back to breaking thread so back looks like hair. Seems like thread getting caught in shuttle?

Sounds like there could be a burr or nick somewhere that is catching the thread and shredding it. Change the needle. Wrap your index finger with some fine fabric (old hosiery, chiffon, silk) and run it around inside the machine around the bobbin/shuttle, feed dogs, needleplate, presser foot. If there is a burr, you will probably find it. If it is minor, it can be smoothed with a fine emery board or fine sand paper. If it is major, you may need to replace the part.

I have a singer touch n sew model 638. All parts seem to be working, except when I try to sew, no thread is left in the fabric. Also, when I use the pedal, I have to push it pretty far, and when it finally...

Make sure the divot in the needle is facing the bobbin case.
Thread can be wound up in the rear of the bobbin case causing a delayed advance... This is often not visible when bobbin is removed.

I have a serenade, and problems from the start. It skips stitches, upper thread breaks with all tensions, or just too tight and it doesnt stitch just makes loops and tangles up. A friend of mine has had...

try a new ball poine needle. Sounds like intermittantly not picking up the bottom thread....It doesn't take much to shorten the needle just a hair to cause this, especially with sharps. Try a ball point needle...The last longer and are more durable. I sew everything with a ball point. Top Thread will also break if the top tension is too tight. Remember, when adjusting tensions, baby steps all the way...just a lil' smidgen might be just what you need. Also, always make certain the machine is level so that the settings don't vibrate out of adjustment. Dusty Tread will also brea easy. Keep threads clean and dust free. Good Luck

My bobbin housing seems to be messed up. I follow all the directions in the manual, but nothing helps. My bobbin stitches are looping on the underside, my machine keeps breaking needles. I'm just trying to...

Ok, if the bottom thread is looping (bottom of fabric) try adjusting your UPPER tension.

Make sure that your thread isn't catching on anything before it reaches your needle, a small snag can cause needles to break.

Upper thread breaking on singer machine

Check that your bobbin thread is not wound too tightly or too loose. Also adjust your tension down a click at a time until it stops breaking, testing on scrap fabric. Singer provided manuals online. Look it up here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

What happened singer?

I can give you a REALLY long answer or a short one. If you really want to solve your head aches I would look to a diff. machine. You will never be happy with this one. I get this all the time. Hubby is a good guy for getting you a machine, he tried. If he did not get it at a sewing machine dealer than that is what needs to happen. A dealer will give you support, training, warranty and the rest. You may even get a trade in on that one, just ask. You are correct the old Singes are a real machine. The new ones are just a name.

Why does my ce-200 beep every few stitches?

I was having this problem for two days so I just called Singer and got a solution!  I'm posting it for you because I was on here looking for a solution to the problem and nobody had posted one.
Take the top thread out of the machine - cut it back by the spool and pull it out through the machine the way the thread goes when you are sewing - you don't want to be pulling the thread back through the machine because dusty bits are getting stuck up in that part of the machine with the frosted plastic where you have to make sure the thread is pulled into when threading.  You might not think there is dust in there - I didn't because I had taken that part off and brushed it out but that didn't work.  What you need to do is floss that part of your machine.  Get some dmc floss or some UNWAXED dental floss and pull it into that part of your machine - under the pieces that are under that frosted plastic part on the top of your machine - now floss it back and forth for a good 30 - 45 seconds.  When you are done that pull it out to the left - the way the thread goes when the machine is sewing - remember pulling the thread back the other way will get fuzzies stuck in there.  I rethreaded the machine carefully and made sure that the thread got pulled into that top part properly - the lady on the phone said it may feel differently now that its been cleaned out.  Then it worked again!
I hope this works for you!
