SOURCE: Juki Sewing machine DDL-555. After 4-5 hours use feed not moving

Sounds like as the machine builds up friction from extended use, some vital part is lacking lubrication and is seizing up. A good service person will remove ALL of the covers and thoroughly air clean and oil every moving part. Sometimes these dry points are hard to find and patience is required.

You can get a sewing machine oiler with a long applicator and put a drop of oil on anything that moves, but over oiling can be messy.

SOURCE: My Viking 5710 starts to sew without any pressure on foot pedal

Mine does the exact same thing. I think the problem might lie in the cord to the foot pedal. The cord packs into the foot pedal for storage, which forces the cord to to remain bent during storage. I believe the wires in mind became damaged and broken so I took it apart and reconnected the wires at the spot where the connector meets with the wires. But I still don't leave it plugged in if I'm not using it, it could be a fire hazard.

Independent repair shops will work on any model, it's the parts they have no control of. The good thing is that we have ebay, where most hard to find parts always pop up. All or 95% of sewing machine stores here in Bay Area Ca. sell and service PFAFF, even vintage metal mechanical models.

HV sapphire 930 not feeding properly

When stitching together a quilt sandwich, it is recommended to use a walking foot on your machine. The walking foot moves the upper fabric in conjunction with the feed dogs. Sometimes, if the quilt sandwich is not too thick, a roller foot can also help but may not be sufficient for a quilt sandwich.

You may also check the presser foot pressure on your machine. This regulates the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric and the feed dogs. If the pressure is too strong, it will tend to push the upper layers of fabric, creating a bubble look. If the pressure is too loose, there is not enough pressure for the feed dogs to physically pull entire quilt sandwich under the presser foot.
(The pressure is adjustable depending on the types of fabric and thicknesses being sewn.)

My fabric won't feed

Check that the feed dogs have not been dropped for darning or free motion quilting. If the feed dogs do not rise above the needleplate, they will not pull the fabric through the machine.

Feed dogs do wear (which is why one should always sew with fabric against the feed dogs--never on bare metal).

Something else that happens is that gunk builds up between the teeth of the feed dogs so that they no longer have the grip they need to move the fabric.

Another thing to check is the presser foot "pressure." A lot of sewing machines have a pressure adjustment that increases or decreases the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric and feed dogs. (Consult your owners manual.) he pressure can be adjusted according to the type of fabric being sewn.

I am using my walking foot to stitch in the ditch my quilt. The foot is not pulling my fabric through consistently.

The quilted fabric may be too thick for the walking foot to move along smoothly. Try using a zipper foot which is much slimmer and can get close to the line of stitching.

Why doesn't the pressure foot fall correctly

Open up the side cover, put a couple drops of oil where you see the spring covered shaft against the back of the machine. Move your level up and down until it begins to move freely. Use sewing machine oil only. 3-in-1 creates a sticky residue that will gum up your machine.

What is pressure foot on sewing machine. where is pressure foot

This is the foot that comes down and holds the fabric layers under the needle.

There will be a pressure foot lever to raise and lower the pressure foot at the back of the sewing area, it usually operates vertically, although some makes have a lever that works horizontally.

The pressure foot needs to be lowered BEFORE you start stitching as it activates the top tension and also helps with the stitch formation by holding the fabric firmly as the needle moves up and down.

You can read some general sewing machine info at www.sewing.about.com too.

When sewing hems and coming across a thick seam, the pressure foot seems to not allow the material to run through, keeping it stalled while the needle continues to pump into the material eventually...

I don't think you can adjust the feed pressure on this machine. I have the same machine and the same problem and my solution is the same as you've already mentioned - raise the foot and move the fabric by hand. I would do it by turning the wheel by hand until the seam is clear of the foot to prevent breaking a needle or sewing my fingers.

I have a Singer 401 A sewing machine. Nylon material will not move across the foot plate when I am sewing. The tension of the foot seems good. It was working then all of a sudden it stopped moving. I...

By saying the tension of the foot is good I take it you mean the pressure is set good. Maybe add more pressure. Are you sure that the lever on the bottom right is set for sewing and not darning which raises the needle plate above the feeddogs? Sure that your feed dogs are moving well at the stitch length set. With slippery fabrics you may need to try a different type of foot. There are some plastic or teflon coated ones that will not stick to or hold the material back. Or try a Walking Foot or Even Feed foot which will move the top of the fabric evenly with the bottom.
They do help alot.
Good luck
