How can we ignite the pilot switch

The directions are on the inside cover of the water heater as well as on the paperwork you received with the unit.
If you have none of these, get the make and model number of the unit and look it up on the internet.
General directions to light a gas appliance:
1.Turn the switch to, "Off"
2.Remove the 2 panels at the base of the unit.
3 Identify the pilot device.
4.Get a long lighter or match on a stick that reaches the pilot.
5.Turn the gas knob to the, "Pilot" position
6.Light the match and put it next to the pilot while pressing down the knob
7. Keep the knob pressed for about 45 seconds after the pilot lights
8. Let go of the knob so it's in the, "up" position
9. Turn the knob to the, "On" position
-the water heater should fire up in under a minute.
10. Put the metal panels back into position.

Goodman gas furnace high limit switch

A volt/ohmmeter is only $3 at a place like Harbor Freight. Goodmans are known for overheating. Often the overheat switch is a one shot item that needs to be replaced every time it throws.
Think if it more like a fuse that melts.

I installed a new Pentair mini max heater 1yr. ago. I've used the heater about 10 times. I haven't used the heater the past 3 months and went to use it and the heater won't come on. I hear the blower...

An E04 can be alot of things.
If the fan is working, then the first thing to check would be the air/fan switch, or the air switch tubing itself. They installed the air switch tubing right over the burner tray so it melts and cracks quite often. This is one of the readons this model was discontinued.

The air switch is inside the cabinet on the right side behind the little metal box. remove the screws to access. The air switch is about 3" and round with a vinyl 3/8" tube coming out of it.
Also remove the top side panel on the right side. Now follow the air tubing from the switch to the blower in the side panel. Remove this tubing and inspect. Chances are there are som small cracks and things you will find. If this is the case, replace the tubing and try to restart heater.

If you did not find the tubing to be bad, then its your air switch. I would like to list the part number, but the model and BTU's were not provided above. Here is a link to the manufacturers parts and manuals list.

Hope this helps
BTW, a 1.5" gas line might be too much gas if its run all the way to the heater. As per the manual, 1.5" can be used up to 10 feet from heater, then bush down to 3/4". Gas pressure should be checked before and after the gas valve to ensure that the correct pressures are there. Pressure guidelines can be found in the above manual and should be followed strictly.
