Question about Craftsman Heavy Machinery
I bought a Craftsman chipper Shredder Vacuum off Craigslist with a non starting problem. It's pretty clean and doesn't appear to have many hours on it. I've been troubleshooting it and it's getting spark and fuel but won't start. I'm thinking it must be a partially sheared flywheel key but not 100% positive that's the problem.

Squirt a couple of spoonfuls of oil into the spark plug hole to increase the compression as it has been sitting so long. Also squirt a little starting fluid into the carb. and give it a shot I think it will start. Hope this will. donnyb60

defiantly the carb but its not bad - clean / soak it with some seafoam and blow out all the holes. its just clogged and isnt getting the fuel/air mixture right.

Unplug the spark plug wire FIRST. DO NOT SKIP THAT. Then, WITH THE SPARK PLUG WIRE UNPLUGGED AND DISCONNECTED AND NOWHERE NEAR THE PLUG TIP, get a good sized stick, and try to turn the cutter wheel assembly in reverse. I suspect you have a piece of wood stuck in there, and it won't come loose unless you turn the thing backwards. You have to disconnect the spark plug because the engine could fire when you turn it. Even if it doesn't start, one good kick could hurt you pretty seriously. So, go unplug the spark plug and do your thing.

The manual can be found HERE.
On the left side of the page, under "Browse Subcomponents" you can use your RIGHT mouse button to open each page in a seperate window. This reduces the use of your BACK button, and personally, I find it more convenient.
Hope this helps.

How have you determined that there is no spark? Have you used a type of spark tester?
What is the condition of the plug. Brown or dark brown is OK. Black or silver is NOT Ok.
If you do not have a spark tester, remove the plug, and with it connected to the wire,
find a portion of metal around the cylinder that you can ground it on, and then pull the rope.
If the plug is black, you may see spark, but you should replace the plug.
*** PLEASE NOTE ; if there is excess fuel in the cylinder or on spark plug, it can catch fire, so be carefull to cover the hole with a heavy rag so that any fuel cannot be exposed to spark plug durning test !!!!
That age of unit should have electronic ignition, so if there is a 'no spark' condition, I would double check safety switches that are found on snouts, shrouds, bags, discharge chute, ect.
Get back with me on how this issue works out.
