I have a 6 year old Hitachi 51in rear projection TV. On this past Saturday, the picture all of a sudden darkened a little and has since stayed that way. I've tried the Magic Focus and even changed some of the video levels such as the brightness, tint and color but nothing has helped. All 3 projectors are still working but the picture is just kind of dim.
-   I already posted the same problem and i call a tv repair man he clean and change the lens and some other stuff and it cost about $450.00 or so, and after a few weeks the same thing happend, after hours (4 Maybe more) of been on it goes distored and dark and it kept the image like that for a long time after been off, it had to be of for like 2 days in order to work fine again. I call him and he check the transformer or some thing like that, he said the cables were kind of burn at each end. So he said that changin the transformer might work and it is about $100 for the part. my question is should i go for these or you guys think is another part, or something else. thanks for you help. -   I am have a similer problem with the TV becoming dim. My TV is only 2 years old. It's also an Aspect 51M200 which is made by Hitachi. They must use cheaper parts. From reading the solution dose this mean it is not the lamp?
-   My TV has been unplugged for about a week now. I know some of those big caps can hold a charge for a long time. But I feel confident that I can do this.
If you could walk me through the procedure here (i.e., locating the areas to be cleaned, etc.) I can take pictures of the process and post them on the site for reference.
-   I also seem to be having this same problem. Screen is getting mighty dim. I'm disassembling the TV to try and clean it up.-   TrueBlue315

-   hi. the tv works fine for a while but after a few hours the picture get's darker and darker, if i play with the brigthness it does not work all it does is distore the white images.-   liscorujo
The procedure for correcting dark picture is EXTREMELY dangerous.. If you're not sure about what you're doing call a qualified technician or you could seriously hurt yourself or get killed!
Picture Dark, abnormal, Changing Color Temperature
Clean the Spark Gaps on each CRT PWB. Remove the Cap, clean the contacts with thin fine sand paper, blow out, reseal.
Remove the CRT Sockets, clean the pins on the CRT. Push the CRT socket on and off several times.
Make really sure before you sttart this process that the Tv has been unplugged for several hours and that you discharge the crt as you remove the anode. There is some extremely high voltage present for hours after the Tv has been off...
Or get a reputable shop to come out and do the procedure for you - - might just save picking yourself up of the opposite wall.
