Found the manual online, here it is:
Go to page 60. Basically, just hold the TV Power button down, hit your manufacturer's 2-digit code, and release power button. If the code is right, the TV will power off and then back on again. The manual only shows numbers 01-19 in use, so I guess you only have to trial-and-error a max of 19 codes (which is ultimately faster than downloading and opening the manual)! I hope this helps you out.

I had the same problem with sony remot control RM-ED002, take remot control apart and clean inside with damp cloth and dry with kitchen towel, thats it now use it! ;-)
When i opened mine it was some kind of moisture under volume and channel buttons, cleaning and drying it helped.

It sounds like the remote and the tv are not completing the signal the remote is sending. Have you checked to see if there is anything blocking the little LED (l.e.d.) in front of the remote?...It could have gotton scratched, or even chipped, in the factory or along the way. Other than visibly seeing any defects with the receiving LED on the tv and the sending LED on the remote it could possible be a programming/ setting problem.I hoped this helped you some!

I contacted Sony support for this same concern. Their response was that there is no volume lock option, you must switch back and forth from "TV" to "AMP" :(
