Asmany as there are FREE dinners Updates are not free, unless you paid full price for it when you bought it. Free upgrades are a deceptive myth. If you get a free uograde its usually minor and was included in the price of the pack.

ALL GPS require charging via the AC charger or USB supplied, If you have not done this then the battery will lose power quickly when connected to 12v car outlet. This source is a maintenance charge, not the main charger. Therefore it will deplete and try to shut down, despite being connected. Holding the power button on to force it is a dangerous driving practice and will eventually damage the unit( not so bad as getting you and any passengers damaged by this practice)
Charge your unit fully before you use it, if that is daily then disconnect it and put it on the AC or USB to raise the charging level to full so it's ready to go for the next day.
If it fails to charge fully, then your actions have damaged the battery and it will need to be replaced.

Fist you should travel around with it, and see if in a different area you get satellites.
It could be where you are at, so this does not mean that in another town or state it won't work.
If you try this and still have problems it could be the unit and you should contact the MFG and send it in for repair.
This is the contact support page I posted below if you need it, its a live link so if you click on it the page will open.

Hold your finger on the top left corner of the screen while turning it on. Release the power button when you see the Garmin logo pop up but keep your finger on the top left corner until the white calibration screen shows.
