SOURCE: Hardwood floor cleaner

Yes, you can use the Bruce hardwood floor cleaner. I've used it many times to clean up after jobs. It brings a nice shine to the floor and is designed for either a hardwood or laminate floor. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: fix hardwood flooring

During the whole process be aware of the edges of the flooring that is going to stay. First prepare the area for dust control. Mark the boards to be replaced. With a flat wood bit in your drill, bore a hole near, but not at both ends of the pieces being replaced. Bore only to the sub-floor. Set your circular saw to cut thru the flooring but barely touch the sub-floor beneath. Make two passes with the saw about 1/2" in from each edge. Lift out the center of the piece being removed. With a sharp chisel split the small end pieces at each saw cut and remove. With a chisel, tap the groove side of the piece toward the middle and remove. There may be a little chisel work to get it out. There will be a bit more chisel work on the tongue side. Chisel the tongue side until the fasteners are located and remove them. Remove the piece completely and remove any paper between the flooring and the sub-floor. Vacuum the area to prepare for the new board. Lay the new piece next to the opening and mark the length. If this is end match, t&g at teh ends cut the ends square. I mark heavily and leave my mark when I cut. It can be cut again if it is too long. Choice here are, cut the bottom of the groove and or the tongue off the new board. I leave the tongue and hook the piece in place. Easier to remove it though. Back cut the length on a table saw, being careful not to reduce the size of the face. This will make the bottom of the board narrower than the face. A sander can be used if no table saw is available. Once sized put glue on the sub-floor and put in the replacement piece. If the tongue was left, it must be tapped sideways to get to the point where it will drop in. Do not hit the wood directly. Used a scrap piece as convincer. When lined up, use a scrap piece of wood to drive the new piece down into place. The new board will be thicker and will need sanding. Congrats.

Home Flooring - Some Great Suggestions

If you're moving home or just doing some renovations, you might be faced with the question of what flooring to choose.
There are so many different options other than just plain carpet in a house, but each choice comes with pros and cons.
Here's my basic guide to flooring choices.

  • Carpet:
Okay, so carpet gets a really bad rap as being very 70s but put in the right environment, I still believe that carpet can be a great asset.
Even though it might seem expensive, you can get really good sale offers on carpet, depending on the season.
Also carpet is very hard wearing and so a good option if you're looking for a long term flooring solution that won't need replacing too quickly.
What I love about carpet is its softness, so it's great in cold countries or for rooms where you want to bring a softer more soothing look to the design.
The problem with carpet though is how it gets stained very easily and can be harder to clean. I sometimes worry that despite all the vacumming and carpet cleaning, carpets might be hiding a lot of dirt underneath.

  • Hardwoods:
Hardwoods are the latest trend in flooring. The costs really vary depending on the quality of wood that you go for.
Installation is also important - it not only costs money for the installation but needs to be done by a professional as hardwood flooring isn't something you can experiment with.
Hardwood floors look great and are much easier to clean than carpet. I find that some hardwood floors are a bit loud to walk on but putting rugs down can help with that.
Lounges look amazing with hardwood floors and modern furniture.

  • Tiling:
Tiled floors look wonderful but it's not a cheap material for flooring a large area and requires a big investment of time and money to install.
Personally I love tilling in bathrooms and kitchens and as it's water resistant it's perfect for rooms where spillages are a common occurance.

I suggest that you look around showrooms. Don't limit yourself to one style of flooring thoughout the whole house. You can mix and match between hardwood flooring and carpets.
Have Fun!

What are the differences between bamboo and solid wood floors?

Bamboo is much more environmentally friendly than solid wood as bamboo regenerates in time. Moreover, bamboo is harder than some solid woods such as red oak and black walnut.

My Sub-Zero 550 is on a wood flooring that is experiencing severe water warping. I checked for leaks from the fridge at the water feed line to the water valve. The drain pan is ok Is there another...

Are you sure that it is water warping and not the heat from the compressor under the unit? Some wood flooring, such as laminate flooring is made up of pressed wood that is glued together and the heat may be warping the glue.

Orech scratching hardwood floor ???

I would recommend using another cleaning method developed for use on hardwoods. It seems to me like even if you replace the wheels, eventually they will wear down again, causing more damage to your floors. Check home depot, ask them what the recommend. Hope I could help.
