Question about Freezers
I cannot find a manual for it. I had it on setting "1" thinking that was the coldest and stuff was frozen for a few months.Today I noticed stuff was thawing out and after googling found that its the higher numbers that are the coldest so I turned it to 6 and I haven't heard it kick on.That is why I was wondering if it could be defrosting itself. How would I know ?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

you say when you advance the defrost timer , id assume turn it ever so slightly the machine kicks on ad begins to freeze again?? then prior to advancing timer i would expect the unit to be totally dead(stuck in defrost mode).no fans, compressor or anything. that suonds like a bad timer or chck the wires going into the timer

THE (SUCKING AIR) OCCURS WHEN THE TEMP IS VERY LOW IN THE FREEZER AND YOU LET WARM AIR IN BY OPENING THE DOOR. WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED, THE WARM AIR IS COOLED CAUSING A VACUUM IN THE FREEZER. IF THE DOOR SEAL HAS A LEAK AROUND IT, THE SUCKING SOUND WILL NOT TAKE PLACE. CHECK THE DOOR SEAL FOR A GAP AT ONE OF THE CORNERS OR ALONG THE SIDES,BACK, BOTTOM, OR TOP.IF THE SEAL IS O.K., HOW IS THE TEMP? IF THE TEMP SEEMS WARM, YOU MAY NEED TO CHECK THE SEALED SYSTEM. LOOK AT THE FROST PATTERN ON THE EVAPORATOR. IS IT COMPLETE AND UNIFORM? IS ONLY PART OF THE EVAPORATOR FROSTED BACK? IF THE ENTIRE EVAPORATOR IS FROSTED BACK UNIFORMLY, THE SEALED SYSTEM IS O.K.

Was the door left open for a long period of time.? Sometimes this causes so much ice that it re freezes and can't clear the drain. The only solution is to unplug and let sit with doors open for at least 24 hours. to get all the ice off the coils. Then use a pipe cleaner on the drain then use a turkey baster to force water through. then a mild bleach solution. Check the door gaskets if they are ripped or loose or the door warped and not sealing tight this will also cause this problem. If this still doesn' t solve the problem it is probably a defrost problem Usually the timer or defrost thermostat.

I am not an expert, but if the defrost heater is not working, then maybe when it was unpluged the coils didn't completly unthaw. If not, the freezer still will not cool properly.
