Re: HP Laser Jer 4 M plus

By "on-line" do you mean it is connected to a network, and you print to it as a network printer? If so, check the IP address in the printer menu. If it is not a valid address for your router, then you won't be able to print to it.

Re: HP Laser Jer 4 M plus

How is the machine connected? try changing the data cable if this doesn't work then shutdown your computer while the machine is on and reboot as if it is connected via LPT port some systems like to have the printer on before the computer.

Try this and I hope it helps if it doesn't then you might have a faulty print formatter board.
Thanks J

Hp laser jet 4 plus prints only half the page then black pages then the other half with cryptic writing on pages over text

What I would do, is go out the
Download the latest drivers.
Install them and start printing again.
If it fails again, print a config page. If that prints correctly, that tells you that the printer is working correctly. Problem is with the interface. If you are using the parallel interface, try a different cable.
If you are using the jet direct try a different one and a different cable.
Could also be a bad formatter.
Good luck

Your description indicates that the problem is with the printer driver settings.
Go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and check the setings for Economode and ReT. The should both be off or Economode=off and ReT set to Med or Dark.
This should fix the problem. Let me know if this works or not and we can try something else.

That sounds like a problem with your printer driver to me. If the wrong driver is used, then print codes that the other device uses will not be interpreted correctly by your Laserjet 4M Plus, which will cause it to beep. Check the driver on your computer to make sure that you are using one designed for any of the following:

HP Laserjet 4
HP Laserjet 4+
HP Laserjet 4M
HP Laserjet 4M Plus

(Either the symbol "+" or the word "Plus" may be used but most commonly the + is the non-Postscript version and the word is used with the Postscript version. Just as an FYI, the only two differences between the M and non-M versions are the ability to speak Appletalk and the addition of the Postscript module, which is in one of the RAM expansion slots.)
