Question about Vacuums

Open Question

There is a popping noise just a few seconds after I start vacuuming. The sound of the vacuum changes! The popping sounds like a rubber gasket shifting in the ball itself??

SOURCE: no suction in vacuum on a Panasonic MC-V7355

the device is a bypass which allows some air flow when there is a blockage. you have a blockage somewhere i suspect hence no suction. check all hoses carefully. take off the base and check the air duct away from the brush roll

SOURCE: vacuum making loud noise (like hole in tube)

I have the same vacuum - it's a clog in the brush area, or where the hose connects to the base. Unhook the hose, like you're going to use a tool. Lay the vacuum flat, so you can stick something in the plastic tube (at the base where you disconnected the hose) without the awkward angle. I use a dryer vent cleaner, but you could probably use a wire hanger. Push through until it comes out through the brush area...should fix your problem.

SOURCE: Our vacuum smells like burning rubber. Does it

Burning rubber smell means the brush belt need attention. Make sure the brush is turning freely and replace the belt

SOURCE: Vacuum sounds like an airplane after 1 year of use.

the motor bearings are starting to fail most likely. You can diagnose the source of the noise by removing the brushroll and belt, could possibly be the brushroll bearings but if you still get the noise when the belt is off its the motor.

If something got stuck near the belt you will only hear the sound when the power nozzle is running. If it's coming from the canister unit show in picture it is most likely your motor. Some dirt or debris could be stuck in the fan or a bearing could be going out.

The rainbow sat for too long on the water now wont run

So depending on how long, you may have rusted out the bearings in your motor, especially if it sat so long as to eat the glue off of your gasket.
Sounds like you may need a new motor, gasket, baffle plate and separator.

Filter whistle noise

Hi Basil,

I am sorry to hear your machine is emitting a high pitched sound. Based on the details you provided the problem may be isolated to the post motor filter, if so a new filter will be needed. We would like to help with this. Please contact our Helpline to speak with an expert:

My vacuum is making a loud whirring sound and is hotter than normal.

Hi Kelsey! I understand how frustrating this must be. Dirty filters or a clog can cause the vacuum to change sound and be hotter than normal.

Here is a quick link to troubleshooting the excessive noise:

Whinning sound when I turn it off

if it started after you cleaned the filters, it is because when you smack the filter that is in the ball like they tell you to, it pushes the rubber gasket in so air can sneak past it. take it back out and pull the rubber gasket away from the filter so there is about 1/16-1/8" away all the way around, then put it back in. it will seal it and stop.

When I turn the vacuum on it sounds really loud, louder than usual, and after a few minutes it smells like burning rubber around the canister. The vacuum is still sucking.

The armature is probably missing a plate and the motor is about ready to burn up, but check the filter and screen on the bottom of the motor first. The screen can be checked by removing the filter and looking up at the motor from below. Clean if necessary by removing the motor. Unplug the unit first. If the motor sounds rough and smells like something electrical burning. It's going to need to be replaced. Check your model # and order a replacement. Pretty easy to install if you get the right motor. Get the foam gasket for under the motor if your replacing a three stage motor.

Loud whistling noise from back of vacuum

On the back side of most kenmore vacuums, there is an air relief diaphragm that, when the motor is sucking but there is no air flow, will pop, causing the sound you heard. check your hose for blockage, check your bag and or filter for blockage, even your attachments/wands can become lodged with debris. Often, after a few, the motor will get hot and the machine will shut down. This is a thermostat on the motor that protects it from overheating. I am quite sure that this will solve your kenmore woes, fine choice in vacuum, kenmore, tried and true. hope to have helped! Have a super, and hopefully sucking(ha ha) Sunday

Noise

What does this noise sound like? If it's a squealing noise, chances are that it is a belt going bad. You can purchase a new belt at your local Sears, or probably even your local grocery/department store. The vacuum belt is easy to replace and inexpensive. Instructions for belt replacement are in the owner's manual, or sometime on the belt's package. Hope this helps... Please take a few seconds to rate how helpful this suggestion was. Thanks and good luck!

TROUBLE WITH MY SHAMPOOER

A rubber smell could be a belt and/or brush roll. But a loud roaring noise could only be from the motor, which would mean replacing it if that is the cause.
