My whirlpool 50 gal natural gas water heater wont stay lit?

Are you sure the pilot is heating up the thermocouple? Make sure the flame is close enough to the thermocouple. Also make sure the thermocouple is seated properly in control valve. Try unscrewing and resetting it back into place.

Reliant 501 Natural Gas won't stay lit

Reliance water heater?
Thermocouple is good if the pilot stays lit continuously.

501 is older model. Unknown if this unit has FVIR protection and sealed combustion chamber or open air intake on front of unit.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Reliance-2006-Service-Handbook.pdf

With FVIR protection:
Get more fresh air to the unit.
Clean the flame arrestor screen.
Test and replace the thermocouple:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-thermocouple.html
Inspect and clean burner and combustion parts
Test gas pressure, bleed air out of gas line.
Replace gas control valve.
Test draft air by lighting match and see if smoke is pulled into the vent pipe at draft hood on top of tank.

I need a thermocouple for a dyna glo heater model #RMC-40GT

I believe on your particular model , that you have to replace the entire pilot assembly. As the thermocouple is an intricate part of it. In which case any LP or Natural Gas heater's pilot assembly will fit it. You will have to secify either Natural Gas or LP Gas when ordering.

I have provided 2 links to where you can purchase the pilot assembly you need.

I replaced my thermal couple and now too much gas at the pilot, what can I do...Art

Art - Just replacing the Thermocouple would not,/should not increase the length of the pilot flame significantly. Perhaps, it had been low for so long (prior to replacing the Thermocouple) it just seems unusually high (long). You didn't mention whether you're using Natural Gas or Propane Gas. But, the length of a Natural Gas Pilot Flame is normally 2" to 3" long. A Propane gas pilot flame is normally 3/4" to 1 1/2" long. If your heaters pilot flame is falling within these parameters for the specific gas type, you're fine.

Hope this helped you.

Where would I find install instructions for a thermopile (lennox 11450097) to go into a gas earth stove model TG300DV

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

You do not even have to turn off the gas to the stove to change the thermocouple.

It is a matter of unthreading the fitting from the gas valve and routing the new thermocuple in the same matter as the old one. There usually are 2 -3 mounting screws for the thermocouple head. Remove the screws and install the new thermocuple head in the same place as the old one.

Before you screw the new thermocouple into the gas valve make sure the mating area inside the gas valve is clean then thread the thermocouple fitting into the gas valve.

Sometimes the igniter is also mounted on the same bracket as the thermocouple just be careful not to damage it if yours is installed in the same manner.

It should not take more than 20 minutes......

That is it.... simple as that.

Thanks for using FixYa
