There might be either a small piece of paper or dust covering the sensor. Take out all of the paper from the printer. Using a can of compressed air blow out the entire paper path. Try the printer again. If it still doesn't work then you may have to get the printer serviced.

it is a sensor malfunction ...and it the actual sensor remain blocked receiving the presence of the paper in the rollers area..even if the paper is passing by right ..it do not detect that ..and it remains in detecting the paper presence mode...or something like that ...
to fix it ..you should look for a way to disable this function (paper gem detection ) ..and use it ahead like this ...cause this is not something vital ..but it is annoying to stop you from working if it s not running proper..
so ...ask for a repair man in the area to disable that sensor ..or the function from the control panel...if it can ..

It is likely that there is either some small piece of paper/other debris covering an essential sensor or that the sensor itself has stopped working.
First of all please inspect the printer carefully at every possible way in/out and ensure there is nothing jammed. Next turn the printer upside-down and shake gently from side to side and hopefully a hairband, paperclip or biscuit will fall out (all of which have happened to me).
If this fails to help I would recommend getting a A4 sized piece of firm card and push it through the printer like it was paper being fed. if any debris has been caught in rollers this should force it out.
If the issue remains I would contact your local Epson service center or retailer (if still in warranty).
