Moved house. Did not turn on the ipad for two weeks. Battery was flat. Tried to turn it on and it asks for a passcode. Have typed in my passcode, but it does not recognise the code.

That's very odd.. You are sure you didn't put the code in wrong or remembered it incorrectly?

If you forgot the code to your iPad you may have to reset it to factory defaults by plugging it into your PC unless you have a backup you can restore.

Forgotten passcode to apple ipad

It really depends if your iPad is locked or not.
Usually you can restore by connecting to a computer and using iTunes.
Follow this easy guide from Apple:

Forgot passcode

The solution to this problem will result on the deletion of all data. Turn off your iPad, then, connect your iPad to your computer while pressing and holding the home button. Let go of the home button when your iPad says, "Connect to iTunes," and then restore using iTunes.

Ipad says disabled

If you don't remember setting up a passcode on your ipad, maybe someone else did, and then entered the wrong passcode more than six times, resulting in a disabled ipad.
In the link above you will see instructions on how to deal with this problem, which pretty much boil down to connecting your ipad to itunes and restoring from a previous backup that you may have saved.
If you never created a backup, you can still reset and wipe your ipad from itunes, resulting in everything being erased, but at lease giving you back full use of your ipad.

Good luck!

Ipad disabled b/c son forgot his password...help us get in?

If your son cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your iPad using the computer you last synced your iPad with. Using the last computer you synced with allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync all your data, apps, etc.

To begin the process, connect the iPad to your computer using the USB cable or lightning cable. Open iTunes and select the restore option.

If you restore on another computer, you can still unlock the device and remove the passcode, but your data and apps will be wiped.

Hope that helps!

Ipad is lockd and i have forgotton password

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212

For restore instructions, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Im trying to unlock the home screen of my ipad, i cant remember the code and i just got a new computer because my old one crashed so my ipad is not synched to this computer. How can i unlock the passcode...

Unfortunately, you're a bit stuck. The only way of removing a passcode without knowing it is to restore from an iPad backup when the passcode wasn't applied.
My advice would be to take it to an Apple Store, and explain the situation. They're always very helpful, and may be able to do something about it.
Hope that helped!
