I have an office jet HP L7780. We changed the yellow ink, but is still giving an error that needs changed. We tried taking it out several times and putting back in. Any suggestions why we keep getting the error to change the yellow?

First off, make sure the yellow cartridge has snapped into place..
You may simply need to reset the printer to clear the message, but this often has to do with the alignment page the printer uses to set itself up, and could be a challenge to repair. Many of these printers need to scan the alignment page to complete the process, and then you have to press ok or cancel, depending on the model. Make sure you follow the instructions on the printed alignment page and press the appropriate button on the printer console to complete the alignment and you should be able to clear this error...
If not, please follow the instructions outlined in articles here and here to help you with this issue, or search other pertinent articles from here. Frequently cleaning and a reset will resolve it.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Hi,

Try reset your printer by following this procedure to reset it,

1. Without turning the unit off, unplug the power cord from the back of the product.
2. Press and hold # and 6 keys.
3. While holding those keys plug the power cord back in.
4. Wait until the screen goes blank before you release those keys.
5. Follow on printer screen instructions. This should fix the problem.

HP L7780 error on printing.

Uninstall completely all of the software that came with unit and then reinstall it.

And HP customer service sucks - they will only help you out during the warranty period of their product.

I have an HPL7780 Office Jet Pro that is 16 mos old in pristine condition - less than 2,000 pages printed. I am told I have a hardwarefailure. (After replacing printheads twice and all ink cartridges) Reds...

The alignement problem is likely to be a issue with the carridge as well as the print head. Usually after doing all of that you have to look at causes other than the prnt head.

Unfortunetly I would agree that replacement is probably the better option. I'm surprised that they didn't suggest that before the first print head. Usually a replacement print head will cost more than the new printer does. I would suggest that you replace it with a laser all in one. The print and maintenance costs are lower than an inkjet. There are several excellant models available and the cost of these has dropped to probably less than what you paid for your inkjet.

Wish I had a better suggestion but you may end up fixing one part of the problem and still have other issues.

Display says I am out of yellow,

Hi, since you've already replace the yellow ink cartridge for several times and its not recognize. Your printer might have a defective printhead. You may take your printer to the nearest HP service center in your area so that they can look on your printer further.

Printhead Problems

Since buying the L7780 printer for our business office two years ago, the printer has been a work horse for us. The problems I've seen online about scanning, paper jams and ink cartridge issues have been none existent. Then it was time to change the print head. The L7780 printed several pages before the print head error message appeared and the printer ceased printing. We tried all the solutions offered online including another print head and cartridges but to no avail. We were ready to buy a new printer. Then a member our team whom we dubbed “Service Tech 130” came up with the solution. Service Tech 130 simply pried the chips off both print heads with a screw driver and super glued the old chip onto the new print head. Now the printer has been working as if nothing was every wrong.
For this to work for those of you having the same problem, you would have to be in possession of the old print head that worked prior to the error. Attached is an image showing the location of the chip. Hope this works for you as it did for us.9101d4c.gif

Printhead ink cartidge replacement

Ok, you may have blocked printheads. Remove cartridges, using a cleaning solution and cotton buds (q-tips) thoroughly clean all residue. Now replace cartridges and try again.
