Question about Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Notebook

1 Answer

Screen is pink, looks strange. Problem was intermittant.

A gentle rap on the back of the screen put it back to normal.
Now it seems permanent. Loose ribbon cable connection?

It could be as simple as the connector for the ribbon is loose, but it could also be a bad connection on either end where the connectors are mounted. The last possibility I have seen is the ribbon it self can develop a crack inside and needs replacement. Since it responded to a tap these would be the usual suspects. I have worked on laptops and if you decide to try a repair your self - A. download the service guide, B - Take your time with notes and organization of the screw removal to make sure you can retrace your assembly when complete. And lastly some components snap apart and back together it takes more pressure then feels right but if the manual says it snaps on and off take a breath and go fro it. Good Luck.

Have a thin green line near bottom of screen

Pixels stuck in the "on" position may revert to normal operation with a little pressure. Use a small piece of tape to show where the line runs and turn your screen off. Slightly dampen a soft cloth and apply gentle pressure to the stuck pixel line. Don't press too hard or you may make the problem worse. The idea is to gently flex the screen material and encourage the pixels inside to shift out of the permanent "on" position. Work slowly, applying gentle pressure along the whole line. Turn the screen back on when you've finished to see the line's response. Repeat as necessary until all pixels are back to normal

My Asus laptop has a pink coloured half screen with a few lines through it too!! it was working normal when i switched it on then all of a sudden it went like this!! whats happened please help!!

This can be one of three problems:

1 - The cable that connects your screen to your laptops motherboard has come loose. If the problem is intermittent or can be rectified by moving the screen / holding the laptop upside down then its this.

2 - The graphics card on your laptop has a fault. This is quite common with laptops that overheat.

3 - The LCD on your laptop has developed a fault.

The first issue can be fixed by taking the laptop apart and checking the cables, but beware - this is normally quite a complex job. The second and third issues will require replacement parts which can be quite expensive. Try to get a quote from a local PC technician (don't go to PC world...) and weigh up if the repair cost is worth it or wether you just just put that laptop on ebay (list it as faulty) and buy a new one.

Hope that helps!

My touch keeps turning off or stickin in the middle of apps what should i do???

The touch screen has developed an intermittent problem, sometimes the ribbon wire becomes loose and needs to be reseated back into place on the main board to fix it, or it is possible the whole screen may have to be replaced in order to address the issue. It might be a good idea to have tech look at it to assess the cost to repair.

Flashing screen

It seems that it is a hardware issue with the monitor, as it does the same thing with different PC. You can check the VGA cable going on the back of the Monitor as it may have a loose connection. It may be due to the connector, which is not getting placed properly, you can try changing the monitor VGA cable. OR need to send it for repair, but repair will cost around $50+, you may get another monitor by adding a little more to ie.

The screen color is off. It looks yellow, pink

Try changing the connecting cable. You seem to be connecting it with a composite cable which might have loose pins.

Pink screen

A pink screen means you need to replace your backlight folks!

If you're comfortable tearing your case apart:

A backlight is a CCFL tube, it looks like a skinny flourescent tube. It will be right beside the LCD, just buy one the same length and viola! It will look brand new.

If you are NOT comfortable tearing into your monitor DO NOT TRY! A reputable repair person should only charge about $50-$80 tops to do this easy fix.

Pink screen

Is your grey scale or Black and white programming pink?? Thats an indication that the green and blue grids on the picture tube are week or that the red is over driving. First thing is take off the back of the set. Find the end of the picture tube and look at the printed curcuit board there. see if you can find and red drive controls there. Put on a black and white pic and ever so slowly rock that red drive control a little at a time till the picture looks almost normal.. If you get it to be a little \less pink then stop right there but if it starts to get a bit green or blue then try rocking those controls all back and forth till you get the bese B&W picture you can BUT BE VERY CAREFULL as there is alot of voltage on this picture tube and if your not carefull it will bite ya. Now dont be too critical as the tube is a bit weak so you probably wont get a perfact grey scale so if after a while live with it or get a new set. Good Luck.
