SOURCE: the carpet brush attachement loses power while vacuuming

I have seen this many times. It is either a bad connection or a break in the wire. Turn it on and flex the wire and connection until you can reproduce it dependably. Then you will know what it is and where.
It is very aggravating. You need to fix it soon, before you take to jumping up and down on it and bust the wand and the power head also.

Vacuum brush stays on when dyson 44 attachment is attached but not turned on

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller is not working properly. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Brush stays on when upright

You are correct, the brush will continue to rotate when using the upholstery hose as stated in the user guide.

The burning smell may be contributed to a couple of different reasons. Make sure the front of the vacuum is not being tipped or tilted forward when using the upholstery hose.

If you continue to have difficulty, you may want to have a one of BISSELL's Authorized Service Centers inspect your vacuum.
Here's a quick link to locating one in your area:

Can I turn off the brushes when using the hose attachement?

Nope, unless you see a big button on top of the hood that says brush. (which I doubt it does) That brush will stay running. It doesn't hurt anything really. When you lean the machine to upright it lifts the brush up off the floor.

The brush attachment will not stay in place on my Hoover steam vac F5858-910

Check the bottom of your brushes. It should have a long shaft sticking out of of the middle of it which locks on the base. If you don't see the shaft, the brushes are broken
