Question about Rinnai Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Rinnai wall heater lights but in about 5 or 10 minutes makes a wind blowing noise and goes out. Including the pilot lite.

The heater is 6 years old. The unit is not vented outside but on an interior wall.

The model number would be nice to know! I am concerned about the way you say it is vented.

Testimonial: "Thank you for responding. The model # is 2001N. I love the heater but it probably should be an outdoor vented one. Thank you for any elm you can give me. Nancy"

You can look up page at a time or you can download the whole thing. I would advise you to get it professionally serviced. The carbon monoxide poison potential is very high.

Pilot lite will not stay on when I release the igniter pressure knob REH-18-N wall heater!

IS there gas? YES ok. So if you can get the pilot lit, but when you let up on the button it goes out. Few things to check. On some heaters the manf. install a safety switch to drop the pilot out if its not venting or if its over heating.

So much air blowing in the pilot on DV-35-2SG heater won't stay lit

Unfortunately if its wall vented the wind can hit it just right and pop off the pilot this happens on older models a lot check your vent if its too much of an aggravation you may have to relocate it

What makes the flame and pilot goes out about five minutes

wind, if there is any wind getting in your flu it will blow out your pilot light
which heats the thermo coupling and keeps your gas valve open its a safety device so if pilot blows out gas valve shuts down so as not to leak gas hopes this helps

The heater pilot goes out when the wind blows outside of the wall where the heater is installed. The heater is only six months old, so the thermo-couple is OK.

You mention that the thermocouple is OK, has it been changed or tested? This $4 part is usually the first thing to fail and I have found bad parts right out of the package. If I were you and I would contact the installing contractor to have them check out the following: Is the vent termination located as per manufacturing instructions (away from interior adjoining walls), Are the vent parts installed correctly, replace the thermocouple under the warranty, and check to make sure the pilot is both good and strong and it is hitting the thermocouple where it should. I have these heater installed on the top of Mount Washington where the wind blows at over 60 miles an hour and do not experience a pilot outage due to wind. The interior design of the venting system combats the wind effects. Good luck to you.

I have an Ascot wall hanging hot water heater. The wind frequently blows out the pilot light. Can I make a safe housing around it to protect it from wind and rain

Yes you can, but make sure that it has access to air. Leave at least 6" of space between the shelter and the pilot. Is it outside? I've never seen one outside.

Gas wall heater won't light

You need to bled the line longer and when you get lited hold down for a good minute. When the gas gave out ,there could trash in the line.I would take the line off and blow gas through it undtil you can smell it.

Rinnai wall heater won't lite.

You may need to take the pilot assembly apart and clean the pilot orifice. If the pilot does not stay lite you may need a new thermocouple. Good Luck.

Pilot light

check the pilot lite height is up enough so when the main valve closes, the impending "whuff" when it goes out doesn't blow out the pilot.
