When I clean a salt bridge from my softener how much water should I put back before putting my salt in?

You don't have to put in any water. The softener fills itself when it regenerates and immediately produces brine. Though it sits for a period of time to soak, that is all it takes. Then using venturi effect, it draws the water out and runs it into the media in the softener. Some water is left in the salt basing but that is ok.

Sestem is not using up salt and will not flush the lines when it is set up to .

Hi Joey,

There could be several reasons why your softener is not using salt. If it has a Demand Control the turbine that meters the water may be blocked and stuck so the softener doesn't realize that you are using any water, so it won't try to regenerate.

Your injector may be plugged, although this would cause the salt tank to become more full with each regeneration.

If you initiate a manual regeneration and regeneration does not happen you may need to replace the softener.

Knowing what make, model and age of your softener would help greatly in assessing. The best quality softeners last 15 to 18 years unless you have an Autotrol Turbulator in your softener, in which case add 25% more time; 19 to 23 years. There are a few brands that don't seem to last longer than 10 years...

Water in salt tank looked bad so i drained it should i put a couple of gallons of water in the salt tank after draining it to get circulation back again ?

The main problem in water softening units is that people continually use pool salt because it is cheaper. Most find eventually that it is not as it blocks the medium in the tank with sediment and rubbish. You may have to replace the medium in the system and restart the regeneration process Best policy is to use only kiln dried water softener salt It IS different.

Hi I am not sure of the model number but the salt light is on and dishes are whitish after washing how can I resolve this

Salt light means your dishwasher using water softener unit.

Salt light is on when either the salt (used for softener regeneration) is low or the water softener unit is not working correctly. First try and recharge the salt in the container usually the lid is on the base of the dishwasher. check this site for some idea. However, if there is water in the salt reservoir then you have to call the technician and get the whole softener unit regenerated.

Hope it is not all that serious. Please rate this solution if helpful otherwise post a comment.

Where do i put the salt in my hotpoint dishwasher ?

If you don't put salt in the appliance then the regeneration crystals will clump together over time and solidify. This will cause a restriction in the softener unit.
If you stopped using it and then started again you may find that the impurities caught by the crystals have simply found their way into the appliance.
You can set the softener to be at minimum setting if you are in a soft water area.

The salt isn't used to soften the water, it's used to clean the crystals in the water softener unit.
Why Do I Need to Use Salt in my Dishwasher?
Salt is needed to ensure that your dishwasher's in-built water softener gives an optimum performance. You will especially need to use dishwasher specific salt if you live in a hard water area. You can purchase one of our Aqua test strips (part number 180876) to determine the hardness of your water from our parts and accessories store or call us on 08448 225 225 .

Manually drain the floor of the machine, put in salt, and check out.
open the salt container at the bottom, and it will be full up with water, and it really will smell bad. clean it and add salt near to 1kg. then run run a prewash cycle and then check out does the salt error is coming up.if yes then more salt needs to be added.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively.thank you for using fixya

Try looking on the computer board for a battery back up. If it does have one, unplug that and then plug it back in and see if that will reset your control.

Salt for DDW1805 Danby

I use ordinary household water softener salt crystals, not pellets, or table salt. The table salt often is not as refined as softener crystals, and can damage the dishwasher's softener in time. Also, the water softener salt comes in a large bag (around 25-50 lbs) for about $6 US.

The salt light keeps burning

the salt light is done by a reed switch operated by a float in the salty water. float may be stuck - give softener (where you put in the salt) a tap and also stir the water inside the softener. i assume you have put in enough salt. its not a serious fault
