Question about Baby Lock Sewing Machines

1 Answer

We were just given a babylock serger and the fabric won't advance. The dogs don't seem to be moving.

Rayzer85, Thanks, I had already found the 2 set screws. htey appeared slightly loose but when tightened it seems the machine runs for just seconds and then doesn't have the power to spin just hums unless you hand turn it. Could it be the motor doesn't have enough power? I have tried to find different postions for the dogs, cleaned everything, but still no luck.

Depends on the model but some machines have a problem that the feed regulator cam has become loose (2 set screws) and will not advance the material. A good Babylock dealer will be able to diagnose quick.

Most likely the feed regulator cam needs to be replaced. After removing and replacing it, the feed timing must be reset.

How to move feed dogs under needle for singer 514

First, make sure the feed dogs are in the up position and NOT dropped for darning.

Second, check that the stitch length is set to at least a 2 or 2.5 to make sure the feed dogs will actually move the fabric a noticeable distance. The closer the stitch length is set to zero, the closer together the stitches will be until it will sew only in one place because the fabric will no longer advance.

The feed dogs need to move. They should actually rise, move toward the back of the machine, drop down, move forward to the position to again rise--this creates one stitch. If the fabric is not moving, then it is possible that your machine has not been cleaned and oiled recently. Old oil will dry and cause the moving parts to seize.

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Brother 1034d handwheel stuck

the best thing to do is take the machine in to have it checked.
sergers are nice & very useful, I have a babylock serger with the jet-air
looper threading systerm, and I use it alot when making clothes.
I even used my serger to serge the ends of fabric that I haven't used yet
so the ends won't fray.

I have a JukiLU562 and fabric won't move starting to sew

the feed dogs are what move the fabric thru the machine to sew it
if the feed dogs are not working, then they need to be checked
to see if they have some loose or broken or need to be retimed

I have a babylock serger & I use SCHMETZ UNIVERSAL NEEDLES on the serger & I don't have any problem with the serger
you should also check the tension to make sure it correct for fabric & needles
also make sure the needle is not in backward--flat side goes to the back of the machine.
if you need a manual contact babylock customer service

Feed dog on Serger Babylock 5260D

Make sure that the presser foot dial (the silver "knob") on top of the machine is not too loose. You can adjust this w/ a nickel; tighten it all the way down & then loosen about 4 full rotations for cotton fabrics. Also make sure the Differentail feed lever is on "N". You can order a book from your local Baby Lock dealership for all models. Good Luck.

Feed dogs on serger don't advance

I use my BLSE200 all the time and ran into the same problem just last week. After pulling out my hair in frustration, I finally realized it had to do with the stitch length. Something wasn't connecting after I adjusted the stitch length, so when I re-set the stitch length, it popped things back into alignment and the feed dogs started working again. *whew* Hope that helps!
