How can i dismantle the dyson in order to inspect the motor

You have to remove just about everything to access the motor. Instead of mew describing it, take a look on Youtube - there's plenty of information there.

Take a look at: How to replace and fit Dyson motor DC14 DC07

The motors do go wrong and non-genuine replacements are half the cost and work just as well. I got a motor and a set of filters for much less than a "genuine" YDK part.

When I turn off my new animal dyson vacuum, I get a noise that sounds like a jet engine winding down. Is this normal? thanks

Hi there,

If you're worried about the noise your DC14 is making, you may find it helpful to check the cleaner for blockages. You can find out how to do this in the Support section of our website:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

Although the machine is new, you may also find it beneficial to wash the pre-motor filter - under normal use, this should be done every 3-6 months. You can view a video guide on the correct way to wash the filter here:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

Hopefully you should find following these steps resolves your problem. However, if you're still concerned, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can run through some checks over the phone, and provide further assistance.

Kind regards,

Jack

Where can I access a user, parts and accessories guide? Am looking to see if we have a "groomer" attachment to clean carpets - Chris

To access the DC14 Animal information on Dyson's site, select Uprights, then DC14 Telescope Reach. You can then choose the DC14 Animal from the various DC14 models.

Download the pdf manual here: http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc14_opmanual_usa2007.pdf

The manual lists some accessories, but the current list of compatible accessories is here:
http://www.dyson.com/store/accessorieslist.asp?product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

The carpet grooming tool (designed for use with Zorb maintenance powder) can be purchased on its own, or in a couple of kits.

My daughter plugged my 110 volts dyson dc14 into a 220 volts outlet. It no longer works - can it be repaired?

After checking with Dyson, it appears it can be fixed but depending on the age, it might be more cost effective to just buy a new one. There are not a lot to the dyson vaccums to repair. Plugging the vac into double the voltage would have fried the motor and that will need to be replaced. There is not reset or surge protector. With shipping and replacement of the motor, we would recommend a new vac. Good luck and sorry!

check out this web site for some possible other fixes before buying a new one:

How do you change the bel on Dyson DC14 Animal? WE can't seem to get access to the belt

Belt maintenance DC14 animal. Dyson would not recommend that the belt on your particular machine is replaced by anyone other than a suitably trained electrician or Dyson Service Engineer.
It is not expensive to get it done locally. If you want to know who can do it, call the free Dyson helpline on 0800 954 0154 which is open from 7am to 10pm 7 days a week or email askdyson@dyson.co.uk
When you have found someone local, you can call, ask them the cost, then make your decision.
If you already have a spare belt and feel confident to change it on your DC14, I suggest you Google for the following.
'Dyson DC14 animal change belt', where you should find it, as I did for my DC07Allergy. I found the solution AND changed my belt on about half an hour. This is not a recommendation for you to change it yourself. You do it at your own risk.

Where is the reset button on a dc14?

There isn't one. If the motor is not running you might have a bad on off switch or this model does have a heat sensor that shuts down the motor that may be faulty. You will need to send it back to dyson.

Dyson DC14 Animal belt clutch slips.

The clutch problem needs to be looked at by a serviceman or professional who can repair Dysons. Slipping belts are often a sign of being overused or with carpet/textures that have caused the beater bar extra tension. I suggest if this model means much to you to get it repaired.
