Submersible pump in effluent tank stays on after emptying the tank

The float switch in the submersible pump is stuck. Depending on the design of the switch you may be able to free it up (if you have access to the pump) by subjecting the unit to vibration. That is, whack it a few times :-) If the switch is beyond responding to that treatment, then I'm afraid it may need to be replaced by a pump repair shop. Good luck!
Cheers, Don.

Step10 pump

you can take the motor off it, but that's about it, there a sealed unit that take high pressure. so if the motor is bad you can buy a new motor OR if the pump is bad you can buy it. there is only 4 bolts that hold them together so its a easy fix If the parts are cheap. kinda

Submersible sump pump leaking oil. are repair parts available. Pump is Teel 1p914

If it is leaking oil then the case is cracked and it would be as mush to fix it as to replace it.
If it is fairly new the take it back for a replacement if not you can get parts but the case is not one of them.
The problem is that if oil is getting out water is getting in and the pump will fail very soon.

How do you add oil to a sump pump? Do you add it to the water in the pit?

dont add oil to water-- if u have to or want to oil motor get a spray lube unplug unit and at bottom remove debris guard only clips on and spray shaft and behind impeller if need to lube upper motor bearing unscrew housing and carefully pull up enough to lube top of motor replace housing careful of watertight seals and test pump oil poured into pit would only be pumped out and does not contact motor which sits in watertight housing

How do you get it apart to install new electric cords?

Not 100% sure about this, but I think you'll find the answer is... you don't.  In all submersible pumps that I'm familiar with, the cable is part of a unit that's sealed during manufacture so that water can't get in to the electrics.  If your cable is damaged, I think you have to replace the whole unit. Sorry! Of course, if you just want to extend the cable, you can get a waterproof connector.
