Look on the power supply board for a swollen capacitor or a burn mark on the board. Do the same for all the other boards. You can get replacement parts here:

Yes most certainly tv's should last longer than a year. What i would suggest is testing your outlet too see if it is putting out and test the tv in another room to see if thats that problem. If you still are having difficulties please post again.

may be a mainboard problem. If you can see the orange light it usualy means that there is power running through the TV... usually inverter boards are a problem when you do not see any backlight at all.
