    I was quite sick all weekend and cloudy in thinking. I read TONS of info from the net. Thus is why the reset was done. Took 24hrs. This AM I got the the rom error. Reading at work a few sites mentioned the F2 key and here we are. This screen is the first screen I've gotten. I'm sorry not much help.

    no thats ok dont be sorry...so did you do a full factory reset? sorry but i will be asking you a lot its only because i am trying to work out why you are where you are. can you tell me what happens when you first start up and what you seen on the screen right upto the point you press f2...why did someone tell you to press f2?is it your windows system is not loading?.

    i think the reason you could be in that windows is because you need to tell the system to boot from hdd.
    this is how it should be set in most settings.
    1 = HDD
    2 => CD/Rom
    3 => USB
    4 => PXE
    so what you are looking for in that window is boot up order when you find it go in there at set it like above.
    then when you have set it to boot from hdd save it and then exit then it should shut down its self if not you tell it shut off and restart.
    let me know how you get on...i am going to give you a link togo if you get stuck it might help you out..again if it does not get back to me and we will see what the next step will be to try and get you sorted...http://ccm.net/faq/4811-restore-toshiba-...

    Sorry for the delay. In the boot tab it has from top to bottom: HDD/SD WDC WD 5000BPVT-75HXZT3, then CD/DVD Test Corp CCDDVDW TS-L633C, Then FDD, and finally LAN. If I understand correctly it already is the way you suggested. Gonna look at that link now.

Hey you try this.
Enter into BIOS, Disable SATA Support, if problem persists, change your Hard Disk, that is crashed. I had the same problem last month.

Sounds like your hard drive died. If hard drive is dead you wont be able to get into anything but the bios. Hold down the CTRL key when computer starts and dont let go and try to force it into going into bios for you.

I would check the hdd is OK and not full of errors. When you press F8 just before boot can you select restore? If you can the restore partition is OK and it will restore itself to factory condition. If you can't, re run your restore discs or use an OS disc and install drivers when you get online.

Do toshiba satellites c655 have a built in mic?

The Toshiba Satellite C655 does not have a built in microphone, but it does have a mono microphone jack.
The following website has microphones that are compatible with the microphone jack. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007675%20600011221&IsNodeId=1&name=3.5mm
You may verify at Toshiba's C655 website. It says "No Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel". http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/C650/C655-S5049
Compared with the L670. It says "Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel". http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite-pro/L670/L670-EZ1710
I hope this answers your question.
Sincerely, Nathan Hicks

My granddaughter pushed the F2 button while the start screen was on. how do i get out of this i keeps saying media test failure exiting PXE ROM

The F2 function on this laptop merely cycles the power plans (see link below)
http://static.compusa.com/pdf/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-S300-Laptop-Manual.pdf

The symptom you describe is that of the OS or a boot device not being recognised. Try removing any USB dongles from the laptop if any are plugged in, eject any CDs in the tray and retry

If this does not work, as the laptop starts up, press the ( I think) F1 key and enter the Bios, see if in the BOOT screen, the hard drive and CDRom are shown. Repost your findings for more guidance

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all. nboulikas@gmail.com for any additional questions.

Toshiba satellite pro 600 won't boot up

If you get this error in a black screen before windows xp can boot up....
CLIENT MAC ADDR: xxxxxxx GUID: xxxxxxxxxx
PXE-E53: no boot filename recived
PXE-MOF: exiting intel PXE Rom
Your network card's settings in bios have somehow been changed. PXE means Pre-Execution Enviroment. In other words, it allows your network card to connect to a network server to pull operating system images off the network and other files without having an operating system installed.
The Fix,
Go into BIOS press F2 or F12 whatever your PC's screen at bootup says. In Bios, reset your bios settings to the default bios settings, or original settings. If nothing else fixed it. Windows Recovery cd will not fix it, because you cannot boot windows if this error is still occuring, Your network card will keep prompting DHCP to search for a network. Its a bios function not a windows function. Reset your bios settings to the default.
