I have an atv that is an imitation Yamaha Raptor, one of those cheap chinese makes. It is a 5 speed with reverse that is manual shift. When I tried to pull the jetski out of the water its casing and foot shifter were submerged under the water. After that it will shift through gears but not engage any of them - it just won't Move. It starts just fine, any thoughts on what it could be? I want to try and repair it if possible but no shop in the area NE Ohio is willing to work on it. Oh, one time a couple of weeks after I started it and it moved then after I turned it off it would not engage again.

Thanks for the insight, I figured it would be tough but will see if I can find a close imitation part.

Pull the trans cover off on the shifter side and see what is going on, I have a real problem believing that water is the cause of your shifter not working, most likely you have a broken part in the shift mechanism, you could get lucky and something just came loose, but inspection will need to be done and that means taking it apart, but good luck finding parts, these products like yours are almost throw away in nature.

Raptor 350 cruiser gears not working

Sounds like the bands are broken between the gears and it needs a rebuild. The bands or rings hold the gears in location so that when you shift the teeth will line up

HELLO;It sounds like you have water in the clutch and it's spinning without engageing, check your oil and see if it isn't milky,if so drain it and flush the engine out with automotive solvent.Let it drain and vent for a few days and then replace it with some cheap oil and fire it up and let it run, then drain and see if that doesn't help. GOOD LUCK.....GREASY
