My onkyo tx-nr 616 suddenly stop working, error pls check sp-cable, what could be the reason.

Either voice coil to the speaker is shorted, or the audio output section circuit to your receiver has shorted component/s at it. Disconnect all the speakers from the set, and check whether it shows any warning error like this. If dhows, the fault is within the receiver itself. If does not show any error message, switch off the set, and connect the speakers; one by one at a time, and try to find out which one is faulty. Be remember to switch OFF the power to the receiver, each time when one speaker box is connected. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

How to repair

Your speakers may be drawing too much current. Borrow someone's smaller (lower wattage) speakers and test it with only those plugged in.

How do you program a mute button for the speaker phone? It doen't have an actual mute button. Been doing some online phone meetings and the instuctor keep saying mute the phone.

It depends on what the phone is plugged into. The SP-308 and 616-ex don't have programmable buttons. The 616-Flex and higher, up to the 96ex do. In a Flex, it's based on *40 under a flex button.

Receiver makes clicking sound before power shuts off. i checked all speaker connections for shorts per troubleshooting!

What you are hearing is the speaker protection relays. See the link below for a generic explanation of protect mode (the mode your unit is in at the moment.) Update this if you have some test gear and wish to attempt to repair this.

You should open the amp and check if you've popped a transistor. It could also be that you've blown a relay... which really sucks lol
