project at
    • 1 Disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet or the breaker/fuse box. Be sure that the dryer is disconnected before you continue.
    • 2 Raise the top of the dryer. You will do this by inserting a putty knife into the crack between the top and front panel. Push against the spring clips to release. There will be one clip on each side of the dryer. Once the top has been released you can disconnect the wires to the door switch located on the right side on the backside of the front panel.
    • 3 Using a Phillips head screwdriver remove screws holding the front panel to the side panels. Pull the front panel away and lift off the bottom clips to remove it completely.
    • 4 Remove the belt from the idler pulley. The idler is located behind the blower/motor unit. When the belt is free you can slide the belt to the back edge of the drum. Lift it straight up to disengage the rear bearing from cradle.
    • 5 Pull the drum out through the front of the cabinet. You will be able to see the drum support ball on the back of the drum and the cradle holding the ball.
    • 6 Apply a generous portion of supplied grease or spray WD 40 into the cradle. In almost all cases, this will resolve your squeak. Once you have greased the drum to your satisfaction, you can reassemble the dryer.

How do i get to the back side of the dryer drum

Don't know why you'd want to, but here goes. Take screws out of the lint filter opening on top. Pull top forward slightly to release catches on the front clips and pop top up. 2 screws holding front panel on, one on each side 5/16" I believe. Unplug door switch. Lift front panel off clips at bottom. Go under the drum and pull belt tensioner back to release belt. It should fall over with no tension on it. Use belt to pick up drum and lift out. Then you can see the back of the drum. Again, don't know why you want to, but there you go! LOL

My dryer keeps grabbing clothes strings and zippers and catching them between the drum and door. It's a front loader. How can I repair this?

The drum slides on your dryer are worned and possibly ate away the front bulkhead and drum.
These parts keep the dryer drum aligned.
Front panel needs to be removed to determine how extensive the damage is, hopefully changing the drum slides will solve the problem.

Gas dryer gets hot but the drum doesn't turn. Broken belt?

open the door to the dryer and inside the rimof the door there is a switch, puch the switch in and with the oppisite hand puch the start button on the dryer. if the drum does not spin then you know its the belt. Pull Lint vent out if top mounted and remove the 2 screws, Between the top of dryer and the front panel, stick a putty knife roughly 3 inches from the side of dryer. There are locks that you will unlock with putty knife. once top is removed at top corners of front panel inside you will find 1 swcrew on each corner, and pull off front panel, slip new belt in and start putting things back together.

How do I get the front panel off of Kenmore 72722100 dryer?

You must pop the top to get the front panel off. There isn't much that you can get at though, from the front. Almost all of the working parts must be accessed from behind the machine.

To pop the top, insert a stiff putty knife, about 2-3 inches from each side, into the slot where the top & front meet. There is a catch on each side that will push in.

Take a flat-blade screw driver and stick it in the seam between the top cover and front panel at one corner and pry up. The top panel will pop up from the catch - then do the same for the other front corner.

You can then tilt the top up towards the back of the dryer because there are hinges in the back. Spin the drum to where the holes for the baffle are and screw the baffle back on. If you are missing the screws, they probably fell to the bottom inside.

You can take off the front by unscrewing the two screws that hold the top of the front panel to the outside panels. Once those are off, just lift the front panel straight up and pull away. There are two holders towards the bottom that the front panel slides into.

Once the front is off you should be able to find the screws below.

Good luck. . .

Dryer is leaving brown streaks on cotton clothes

The 417 dryers have two seals on the front panel, the top seal has drum glides which wear down over time. Because the drum rests on those glides, when it wears down it leaves a gap between the drum and the seal, clothes will drag in that gap and come out with rust and/or seal adhesive stains. Try replacing the top and lower seals, this works most of the time...sometimes though, if left unattended long enough, the lack of support from the front glides causes too much strain on the rear drum bearing, and even after replacing the seals clothes may still catch, although the brown spotting will stop for awhile. You can feel the gap if you run your hand along the inside of the drum at the seal point.
