SOURCE: black smear of ink at end of lines

Please load the printer with at least 10 sheets of plain paper then press the start button. This will dry or clean any ink found on the rollers.
Continue to run blank pages through the printer until no more ink is found on the paper, then attempt printing. If ink stains, streaks or smudges are still present, the printer may need service.

Ink is smearing across amounts. I have put in new one it is still doing it. What do I need to do?

Smearing is usually caused by someone re-inking a roller or ribbon. The roller or ribbon must be replaced - never re-inked or damage can occur. If this is not the case, let me know the brand and model number and I'll try to help

Canon Pixma MX 310 print smears.

You need to clean the bottom of the printhead, and use a Q-tip to clean the wipers on the clean station that is on the right side where the printhead parks. There are 2 or 3 squeegees there that wipe the bottom of the printhead and when there's too much ink it stays on the printhead causing the smears.

you may have to clean the print head. since the jam cause the smear, and there still have some ink left on the print head.

Smeared lines

Okay, this was the problem I posted a few days ago. It's fixed now, so in case you have the same problem with smearing, here's what the help desk from Canon suggested: Open the cover and remove the ink cartridges. There is a gray lever in front of the cartridges. Lift this lever and the printhead can be easily removed.
Our printhead had a buildup of black ink on the surface. I carefully removed this with rubbing alcohol. I let the printhead dry and replaced everything. No more smearing. Imagine a help-desk that actually helped!
