May have electrical clutch on engine pulley. See if wires are connected and a pull switch on the dash. Or read the manual

I dont know how yours is set up but most newer mowers have a lever for height and a lever that engages the blades usually on the dash.

It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running.
Hope this helps

Or, you can go to... http://mtdparts.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&App=MTD&TF=Empartweb&Lang=EN&searchDB=MTD&loginID=MTDCon&LoginPWD=&xmlPostDest=http://www.buymtdonline.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/processShoppingCart_10101_19502_-1_19502 Then enter the brand (Yardman) and model number (from under the seat), hit search. Then look under 'illustrated parts' to mower deck.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:
You willneed to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Makesure the small screen is free of debris.
Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.
If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Hello, Ask your local Mower shop if they show a Thermal switch for the PTO. You may have to replace it or move it away from the heat.
