The washer is sticky inside the valve. Depending on the type, you either replace the washer or diaphragm, or completely replace the inlet valve.

Easy job, just Google or YouTube.

No problem. Take a picture of the old one and if it is bottom entry, measure from the base of the tank to the top of the valve. As long as the stop valve cuts the water off okay, you just empty the tank and undo the nut to the base of the valve and the nut to the water supply, lift the old one out and put the new one in, making sure you have the washers in the right place. Connect back up, don't over-tighten, just snug. Turn the water on and check for leaks. Side entry are easier. Watch the videos a couple of times.

American Standard Carlyle Series toilet is refilling about 10 percent of the water in the tank every 20 minutes. Do I need to replace the flapper or the entire flush valve?

Start with the flapper. They tend to dry up especially with water that contains chlorine. Purchase the American Standard flapper if available for that toilet. Works better than generics.

Toilet takes a long time to fill up after flushing

Perhaps the shut off valve is not fully open, or constricted. Try opening and closing the shut off valve to loosen any sediment. Otherwise, replace shut off valve.

I think the problem with your toilet bowl is in the tank fitting of it..you better check if the fittings are proprerly working..You also check the flapper and also the fillvalve.
If it is not good already you can replace it by buying the tank fittings at the hardware store..And you better also be check it to your plumber for the second thought..

The overflow pipe should be attached to a small clip that holds it in position over the over flow pipe. If it is loose or attached to the outside it will do what yours is doing.

What does a toilet actuator do?

Older American standard toilet have an actuator in place of a flapper. it looks like a big black thing with a round tube on top that the chain attaches to, when you flush this toilet the actuator seams to lay on it's back for a few seconds and then drops back down, and the tank refills.

I bought a toilet from homedepot in toronto 6 months ago. from yesterday, it keeps to refill the tank like every 10 seconds. but i can not see where the water leaks

There are a few likely causes for a toilet to leak and refill. The most common is the flapper not seating properly. Usualy on an American Standard it is a disc. Either way, they are fairly easy to replace. One test I use to see if the leak is comming from the flush assembly is to put a couple drops of food coloring in the tank and wait a few minutes to see if it appears in the bowl. If so, there is a leak in the flush assembly, usualy the flapper. Hope this heps. Please vote to let me know.

Problem: water tank running water and refilling itself

probably the flapper valve is not seating correctly over the outlet. you can fix it by reaching in and twisting the valve one way or the other till it seats properly and the leak will stop.

American standard toilet

I have the American Standard Champion 4 toilet. Water is leaking from the tank to the bowl causing the toilet to refill. I've replaced the flapper and cleaned the surface the flapper contact. Nothing seems to work.

Toilet tank is refilling slowly.

Hi AaronYC,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumbe.

Your problem is: Installed a new American Standard Cadet 3 toilet bowl and tank at home. When you turn the water supply on, the tank refills normally and stops normally. After you flush, the refill is very slow. When it refills normally the water comes out from the bottom of the pipe (i.e. the pipe that houses the float cup) and when it is refilling slowly, it comes from the top of the pipe. Sometimes (but not always), you can shut the water supply off and when you turn it back on, the flow of water goes from slow to fast instantly - but you haven't been able to recreate this consistently.

These are the facts. American Standard has been keeping costs down by out sourceing. Their toilets are now built in third world countries and parts are made cheap. They're all doing it. Quality control is pretty good but your toilet came with a bad "ballcock". That's the refill part on the left. Because it's new, if you take the ball **** back to place of purchase they should give you new. If not, they cost less than $ 10.00 and easy to replace.
