I have a lazy boy front tine garden tiller. i want to have the proper amount of 90 wt gear oil in the transmission. I can see one hole with a plug that says gear oil. Do i fill the gear box up to that...

ITs not really a lazy boy brand is it? If we a re talking about garden tillers... then if the fill hole is on top the oil level should be about 1 ( one) inch below the hole. If the hole is on the side of the gear case then it is a peep hole and should be filled till fluid runs out.

Tiller will not continue to run. It has good spark. It will start if primed through the carburator but once the prime burns off it dies.

If fuel sits in the gas tank 3 months, the fuel deteriorates and it gums up the filter in the tank. You need to put stabil in the tank. This has happened to me over and over. It is best to dump out the gasoline if you don't use the tiller within one month. Some people who use chain saws commercially dump all the gas out every day and start over the next day. The symptoms are the tiller won't run at high speed at first, then as it gums up more
it won't run even at low speed, then becomes hard to start.
The gum is hard to see. Pull out the gas line to get to the filter and change the filter. Filters are only 3 or 4 dollars at hardware stores.

My 3 yr old put sand in my tiller's gas tank. Can it be fixed?

Hi Lisa,

Hopefully it wasn't running.

You need to:
  • drain the tank
  • remove the tank
  • rinse it out (with more gas), including the hoses until no more sand is evident
  • reassemble
Compressed air can be useful in dislodging any sand remaining in the tank.

Pouring the gas through a paint filter will trap the sand so the gas can be used.

Best regards

Mike

I have a lazy boy tiller the belt keeps slipping off the tensioner

As your tiller ages and as you use it, the belt stretches. There is also some wear on the inside of the belt. These belts take a beating, by the way. Your tensioner should be spring loaded and should accomodate some stretching.

My suggestion is to tighten the tensioner to match the specifications the manufacturer lists in your owners manual. If you dont have the manaual, tighten it slowly until it stops coming off ... or ... replace the belt.

I hope this helps you.
