Put ice on it and take ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory). If it is the same in two days, go back to the doctors. Most likely cause is a reaction to the ingredients that make up the liquid part of the serum rather than the dead flu virus itself. The virus is sterile.

Is it true the the flu shot has caused many deaths due to the flu?

Unfortunately, the flu shot is not 100% effective, but also, many of the children who died from the flu this year had not received the flu shot.

Does having flu shots increase you chances of getting Alzheimer disease ?

hi Eldon.
You may have heard someone say that they're not getting a flu shot because it might cause or increase the risk for Alzheimer's. Are they onto something, or is this a myth?
According to the Alzheimer's Association, the idea that flu shots (or the chemicals within the shots) cause or increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is a common myth and is false.
Some flu shots contain a small amount of mercury in the thimerosal, the preservative that may be in some of the flu vaccinations. (Single dose flu shots generally don't contain this preservative since they're designed for a one time use when opened.) According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, three governmental agencies and three independent agencies have conducted rigorous research that have demonstrated that the amount of mercury in thimerosal is safe and does not pose any harm, other than minor redness or swelling where you receive the shot.

Do flu shots still contain mercury?

Some large, multi-use containers of flu vaccine contain a trace amount of ethyl mercury, a harmless preservative.

The poisonous forms of mercury are methyl mercury, pure mercury, or mercury vapour.

This is analogous to chlorine, a most toxic gas, and very harmful as hydrochloric acid, yet we eat it every day as common salt, sodium chloride.

If you are still concerned ask for your flu shot to be given from a single use vial, which contains no preservative.

What are some of the side effects of the flu vaccine?

You may feel some light flu-like symptoms after getting the flu shot. You might feel some aches and pains and cold like symptoms such as a runny nose, cough or sore throat.
But you should bear in mind that the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the side effects

How does the flu shot actually work?

The flu shot causes anti bodies to develop in your body that then protect you against infection from the flu virus. It takes about 2 weeks for the vaccine to work and whilst it can cause fatigue and muscle aches, it can't 'give you' the flu.

Are there different types of flu shots available?

: Yes, there are four main types of flu shots available:

1; The traditional flu shot that is injected into the muscle. It contains flu-particles but will not give you the flu.

2; The high-dose shot that is the same as the shot above but contains a higher dose

3; The intradermal flu shot that contains the same vaccine as the others but can be injected just skin deep and can be used on people age 18 to 64.

4; The nasal spray vaccine that can be used on people age 2 to 49. It contains a live, weakened flu virus.

Your doctor will advise you which of the vaccines is best for you.

What is the flu shot? Everyone seems to be talking about it.

The flu shot is the flu vaccine that is given once a year to prevent the flu. It's primarily given to children, people with sicknesses and the elderly but given how many people are hospitalized with flu each year, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to get the shot no matter their age.
