Hi Jeanie Shipman, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
what is the internal ip address of the router
what is the dchp server the router ?
how is the wi fi provided via same router or some other device ?
IP address of P.C you tried to connect directly with Wi Fi ?
Are subnet masks 255.255.255.0 on all devices ?
Suspect via your limited information given that the Wi FI device has a different IP address to rest of your network. And may have a dhcp server clashing with your router DHCP device.
P.C may be static ip address rather than DCHP
also wi fi device may have same ip address as another device ?

SOURCE: WIFI not working with Linksys wireless-g broadband router/Comcast

Unplugging the wireless router and connecting it again should not have altered the wireless connection/configuration. You have connected the cables correctly because the Internet works when you connect a LAN cable to the router.
The Linksys wireless configuration or the wireless card configuration in the computer was changed it to lose the wireless connection. The wireless card configuration needs to be changed to match the wireless router's settings or change the Linksys with new configuration settings and configure the wireless card accordingly.
To secure your router with a login password and wireless security, please follow my instructions - click on this link :-

SOURCE: my pc was connected to my moms desktop via wifi then her internet service was off for a few weeks now I can only connect by ethernet cable even though my wifi card says I am connected

You have to reset your wireless router. You need to delete the old connection on your computer to that router. To do that, point your mouse to the wireless icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Right-click on the icon and choose "Open Network & Sharing Center". In the window that opens on the left column choose "Manage Wireless Networks". Right-click on the network and choose "Remove Network" for all networks that are shown. After you've done all this, click on the wireless icon in the bottom right hand corner and choose the name of your router to re-connect. If you have a secured password, you will need to reenter it to connect. If none of this works for you, follow this link below to reset your router and modem.http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=80&respid=0&snid=14&dispid=0&cpage=search

Hp a345w desktop pc dcs server not found conflict

what OS, we can NOT GUESS your operating system.
so where are you , home or star bucks.?
what is your connection, wifi, ethernet, or others?
a desktop pc can have vast ways to get internet.

1: modem dial up (i bet not this, nobody uses this now, 99.9)
2: cable modem, sat modem, fiber modem to ISP
3: USB wifi dongle, on PC and to local router.
4: PCI card wifi. , to router.
5: ethernet wired to router or modem direct. a cable wire. CAT5/6

one can even have direct wired ethernet to the cable modem
or you might have wired to wifi router (2 ways to connect there)

NO OS stated
no connections stated.

my guess is DCS, means DHCP not found, or DNS not found.
lots of causes, but I will not attempt to answer for all 6 ways.
sorry

What type of ethernet cable should I buy and how do I connect it?

May need a little more info.
wifi is cordless. There is no cord involved; but your computer needs to be fitted with a circuit and you need to have access to the radio signal.
If you don't have wifi, any ethernet cable will do to reach from where you work to an ethernet connection provided by your school. They are at RadioShack, Lowes, or Walmart.

I was given Netflix (stream-in) for a gift, but can not get it to come onto our tv. Please help.

Your TV must be a 'smart' TV i.e. it should have software enabling it to connect to the internet and access features such as Netflix. If you don't have a 'smart' TV then you can purchase a set top box which can be connected to your TV and will allow you to access on-line services such as Netflix. If you have a 'smart' TV then you still need to connect it to your internet router, either with an Ethernet cable or via WiFi if the TV has WiFi built in (or you can buy a WiFi adapter for the TV). If you connect with an Ethernet cable then the TV will connect to your router (and internet) with no further setup. If you use WiFi then you will need to access the WiFi settings menu on the TV and configure the settings for your router.

My dad gave my son an elderly (2001) HP Pavilion xf145 notebook with windows xp. We can't figure out if we need to add a wifi card of some sort, if it can even connect to our wifi or what. It seems to...

You can use either external wifi modem and connect it to the notebook by ethernet cable or (better) use PCMCIA wifi card (second-hand e.g. from eBay?) or wifi usb modem connected direct to usb port. Just check if choosen wifi modem supports your OS WIN XP (and service pack - e.g. WIN XP SP3). In the Reference guide of the notebook is not specified USB version - it seems to be v. 1.0, so it is necessary to get an USB wifi modem compatible with USB 1.0 standard.

Hi, Restore your computer to the last restore point before it froze using system restore. This should reset the computer where everything was working properly. Hard shut downs can corrupt files and drivers. Also do a full virus scan to make sure your system is clean.
