Your compressor is shot, I would recommend not letting it run, it could over heat and develop a leak, the refrigerant is extremely toxic, and if it ignites creates Phosgene gas which is incredibly dangerous. IF, you can find a compressor for the model it may be worth it to replace it, or buy a new one. Good Luck!

Cr286bse will not cycle compressor when inside warms

It's the thermostat, had the same issue, just stopped working out of now where, popped the arrow cover off, single screw. As soon as I was pulling it off, the fridge kicked on. I didn't check the wiring but will next time it goes out.

I have an Emerson Refrigerator Model No: CR286BSE that no longer workers after only two months.

Similar model Emerson compact fridge died in my wife's office after only a few months of use. I assumed it was the compressor, but there was no puncture or serious issue. Next thought: thermostat. I opened the thermostat inside the fridge (unplug everything first) and while it didn't turn on I saw that the wires and connectors seemed fine. On closer inspection the temperature control has a metal pin on a spring that SHOULD slide with the temperature control but seemed to not really move. It slid on a not-quite-circular mechanism but it didn't extend the spring or really change position. I turned the thermostat and forced the springed pin back to the top position (a small notch). This, apparently, is the natural "off" position. Release again and the pin slid normally with the thermostat. Plugged in the fridge and it began cooling quickly. I'll test it again later (I turned it off to let the coolant re-settle in case it had bubbles from me moving it around so much), but fingers crossed... this seemed to work.

In short, I think the fridge's thermostat has a faulty design that can slip so that turning the thermostat makes no difference to the temperature or output. Because the metal isn't touching the inner component the compressor just doesn't turn on. The fix took only a phillips screwdriver to open the thermostat box and I used a flathead screwdriver (you may be able to use your nails) to return the pin onto its wheel mechanism. I may be completely wrong, but it worked for me. :-)

Just bought a used westinghouse RJ275M fridge. It seems to work fine except for the noise - it has a low hum and rattling noise.

It can be compressor fan noise, may be motor getting overheated and causing noise. It has to be inspected.

Before going to buy any parts directly.

Making a clicking noise and not cooling

This could be a relay on the control board or the compressor is short cycling or both. You can use my assistance to help you resolve this or call a technician, this depends on you. I am very familiar with the Artica/Profile and know that if you can follow instructions and use a test meter we can get this fixed. I would like your complete model number so I can refer to the exact model you have. I will leave you contact information and a service manual and a web page to use with the diagnostics. Maytag refrigerator clicking noise and stopped working

How long a period of time have you noticed this noise? If it just started and the refrigerator just stopped it could have entered its defrost cycle. When the defrost heaters come on you may hear the heat causing some expansion. After a few minutes(18-22) the defrost cycle ends and the refrigerator will restart.

Side by side stopped working but clicling noises every second two.

Ok the motherboard is malfunctioning. Ive observed this exact problem before. Replace the board and all will be normal again. If you keep lettig it click and click it may finally kill that relay that you descibed to me or even worse the compressor itself.
