No you only deregister if you no longer have it. Just register the new one to start using it. I have a paperwhite and a fire tablet. There is an option to sync the books so you can use either one.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have a 6 year old Kindle 3G and the cord is frayed. I know that newer models are easier to read (more light) but can I transfer everything on my old one to a new one? Can I just buy a new cord?

I assume you're referring to the USB cord. Certainly you can buy a new cord at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store. I have multiple cords (and chargers) all over the house so I can use my Kindle in any room and keep it charged. Naturally, there's another cord by the computer.

How xcan I transfer all my archived kindle books to my newer kindle

On your old Kindle, in settings select 'sync my kindle' (to make sure all content is in the cloud)
On your new Kindle, register with the same account, and then select 'sync my Kindle' on that one.
They should now both have the same content.

Yes, as long as the account still exists. If you cancel the account in the meantime then obviously you won't be able to reregister to that account. However you will be able to register to a different account.

2 years ago my daughter bought me a Kindle e book. she wants me to deregister it & reregister it in my name. How so I do this?

When mine was lost and I bought a new one I had to call customer service to get things straight. When you get that settled log onto They can send you a short list, by email, of books you might like. Just fill in info about what kind of books you like. Some o them are free and some low price. I've found hundreds...One day I might get to read some of them. LOL
