Question about Maytag Refrigerators
Hello Suresh Mavadia,
This is the time to consider a repair ESTIMATE..
If you cannot find ANYBODY else... try sears.
(bad personal experiences... but hey... maybe it's just me).
- Always UNPLUG your refrigerator BEFORE "looking" at
it's electrical elements.... It is NOT safe... personal injury
is another issue you DO NOT WANT to ADD to you problem.
Make a mark (dot) on the center rotor... and a matching dot on the body of the timer
(Plug-in) ... check back an hour or two (in-plug)
If the dots have not changed their relative position the timer MOTOR is at fault ... THE great news is you have found your trouble ... and can defrost by manually advancing the timer... about 40 minutes... two or three times each day.. The bad news is you can still ELECTROCUTE yourself... Be careful.
There are three basic elements to MOST DEFROST CIRCUITS.
It is pretty easy to test and change out the DEFROST TIMER yourself (see below). On the associated drawing it will show you where it is... and what it looks like - there ARE DANGEROUS VOLTAGES on ALL these ELEMENTS....
The other two defrost elements are
(specific purpose: to keep the defrost heater from getting HOT while removing the frost, typically located at the TOP of the evaporator)
the HEATER Element
(typically located at the BOTTOM of the evaporator)
Take pictures and write the color AND number of your wire connections... Look for your original owner papers & part numbers...!!
WHILE... you a fighting with your problem to get it sorted out... FOOD HANDLING (POISONING) and waste are going to be your primary concerns...
Your refrigerator can still function (but poorly & unreliably)
possible WATER DAMAGE.
Do NOT use heaters to speed defrosting...
the soft plastics PARTS inside your refrigerator will be
DAMAGED an is typically irreplaceable.
Comment me back BEFORE getting into trouble... I come here daily.
Hope this helps.
