Take the 1st two numbers of the serial number, and subtract from 100.
14388170 = 14
100 - 14 = 86 = 1986

Testimonial: "sounds about right considering the condition of the rifle. Thanks"
On Marlins made from 1948 and later, subtract the 1st two digits of the serial number from 2000.
Serial number 21615408
1st two digits = 21
2000-21 = 1979

That is most likely a 1972, I bought mine in 1974 brand new. I still have the box, but I can't read it. The corrupt cops of PA took all my guns and now you have to defend this country without me. I was good enough to go to Vietnam, but not allowed to protect myself when 2 people try to run me down with ATVs, on my own property.
