Question about Televison & Video
This might be a mode switch problem. The mode switch tells the electronics which position the mechanism is in. Be it play or record etc. However the switch contacts can become dirty or worn, thus confusing the electronics. For example it might say that the tape has come to and end, but the electronics thinks it's in record. So it rejects the tape! The only cure is replacement, though some Servisol Video 40 sprayed on the contacts of the switch will cure dirt on it.
This is what the mode switch might look like, though the do vary.
