Question about Nikon Coolpix S9400
Hi, I have a Nikon Coolpix S9400 which has given me excellent service for just under 2 years. Now the monitor on the back of the camera has gone blank. The camera will still take photos and I can view those photos when I connect the camera to my PC, so the camera is not completely dead. But what is actually in the frame is just guesswork. Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the camera to "factory defaults" to see if that wakes up the monitor again. The manual does tell me how to reset the camera but that involves going through the menu. I can't see the menu because the monitor is blank. Thanks in advance for any advice. John
The Display is OLED and when it is off it is really OFF.
This camera has FIVE (5) Brightness levels for the display. The Brightness is usually set in the TOOL (wrench) menu.
If you are positive the batteries are good, fresh and or fully charged it is MY OPINION that the camera is non functional. The Viewfinder is critical for camera operation. Sorry I am not much help here it seems this camera needs either repair or replacement.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I need to know the log appearing before I can assist. Many issues can cause cameras not to upload. Is this a sudden problem, ie, have you uploaded before successfully to your pc? Pc issues will also stop you. Let's do this step by step ans start with the log thta appears. Let me know.

I just purchased a new battery door for $15 with shipping from nikon. They sent a simple assembly diagram and I was able to replace the door in 30 minutes. I used a dremel to cut the old door off, but you dont have to do that. I got a little impatient.
Just buy the plastic piece and u can reuse the metal parts for your old battery door.

This sounds like a broken or cracked LCD screen. The backlite is working, thus you will get the white screen. The LCD could also be disconnected internally, or has other problems. But this is a direct problem with the LCD.
A camera like this can usually take pictures, and you may be able to use it to set the menus by using the video cable to the TV or computer screen (some flat screens have video inputs).

Give the lense side of the camara a few moderate slaps while moving camara from bright to dark obgects back and forth. the shutter gets stuck and doesn't respond to changing light. that's why outdoor pictures are usually too bright and indoor pictures are black.
