Question about GALAXY Microsystems 63702 Top Freezer Refrigerator
We have a Galaxy top-freezer refrigerator. The parts behind the back panel in the freezer compartment are getting encased in a solid wall of ice, so we have to melt the ice 1-2 times per week or the refrigerator doesn't stay cool.
We don't have a lot of cash right now, so I'm hoping there might be an easy (and hopefully inexpensive) solution. Any suggestions? Thanks!
There are two components that are supposed to take care of this problem. One is a heater that defrosts the system (not really frost free) and the other is a timer that turns the heater on and off at predetermined intervals.
If the heater or timer fails, the system will frost up and block the path of cool air not allowing the freezer to cool down.

First, unplug fridge and melt the ice with warm water or a hair dryer
(and soak up the excess water). make sure the drain under the coil is not plugged and dry up as much as possible. with fridge and freezer empty, turn it on (also check to see if the fan is working) and keep the doors closed for a day. once the fridge has reached the proper temp empty, now fill it up.
