Sounds like you have a thread jam( bird's nest) inside your bobbin housing. Take the face plate off, remove the bobbin, and take the housing apart if you have to...then start all over with winding new thread on the bobbin and re threading the machine before you try sewing. Hope this helps!

How to thhread my singer fm22

Rhonda: According to eHow. com: " Instructions
    • 1 Plug the power cord for the Singer FM-22 into the wall power outlet.
    • 2 Turn the wheel on the right of the machine toward you until the take-up lever on the front is in the highest position. Raise the presser foot releasing the tension discs. Put the thread spool onto the horizontal spool bar and lock the spool in place with the cap. Run the thread through the thread guidepost on the top of the machine, to the guidepost on the front, down through the tension discs, up into the take-up lever and down into the guidepost on the needle shaft. Thread the needle and pull until there is a 2-inch lead.
    • 3 Press the power switch so the upper portion is pressed in. The 'I' means on and the 'O' means off.
    • 4 Place material under the presser foot and lower the presser foot setting the tension and holding the fabric in place on top of the feed dog. The feed dog is the metal plate under the needle where the material is feed through the machine.
    • 5 Lightly step on the foot controller to begin sewing. Go slowly until you are comfortable with the speed of the machine.
    • 6 Practice changing the stitch type and moving the cloth along with the feed dog.

Singer xl1000 is locking up

Is your material beginning to go under the feed dog? If this appears to be the problem then try placing the needle on the right or left side of the needle plate while you sew. If your material is thin it will especially be a problem and stop the machine from movement. I hope this helps. If not then come back for some more help.

I cant get the material feeder to come up so that the material can slide

Make sure feed dogs (teeth in needle plate beneath needle) are showing. Flip switch to UP position to "feed" fabric. Sometimes control fir this located on back of machine lower left side and " hidden" by your extension table, so remove that table and you'll find the switch! Jimmy

check in the needle plate area to see if the feed dogs are up,,you be able to see them & touch them with your fingers.
if you can see & feel them, then check the manual for where the feed dog lever is & move it to the opposite position, & then if that doesn't make the machine sew better then it will have to be fixed at a repair shop

My machine is not feeding the material through, why would that be?

the feed dogs in the needle plate area move the fabric while the presser foot holds the fabric against the feed dogs, the operation manual should show where the feed dogs switch is

Hand wheel wont turn and thread wont go up and down

This happened to me SOO many times when I first got this machine and was trying to use it for thicker fabric or several layers of fabric(6-8).

The solution was a pain in the neck but always worked.

Remove the entire bobbin casing. Once the entire case is removed, you should be able to lift the needle with the hand wheel and free your material.

Reassemble the bobbin casing and oil well. Make sure you didn't bend your needle and start like normal. I found that several times when this happened, I would bend or break the point of the needle (still able to be threaded so not as apparent). This will not only cause the problem over again if not caught, but also can ruin the material by puncturing larger holes in it.

Hope that helps.

Model 6233 Singer material will not feed needle goes up and down

Is the feed dog pushed to the up position? How about selecting a stitch length? I have a feeling watching the dvd and instruction manual will do wonders for you, If you lost your manual, go online to and download one for free,
