Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a F&P Fridge Model c270 that the thermostat is not working and within 24 hours drops the temp to -8c.

Have turned it off for 24 hours then changed the thermostat setting and within 24 hours - back to -8c... what level of confidence should I have in changing the thermostat will fix the issue -- and where can I find the cheapest replacement part?

Hi Phil, you have already posted in your original post that the fridge is a C270 (which is the model number of the single door fridge). On the grey label showing the model number and serial number, there is also a number referred to as product ID

    Cut's in at +5.5?C+1.1?C, Cuts out -26?C+1.5?C

    Ambient heater - 5.58K ohms

Thermostat - CONTROL DANFOSS XXX3.5 deg C Cutout

    Part # 813491P - which replaces or equivalent to 883707P, 813491P, K59-A6821-001, RFP091.

    Capillary length is 1100mm.

Also, check that the system is fully flooded and check that the sensing tube is in thermal contact in the sensing well. No more than 30mm of the sensing tube should show through the end of the well.

Before replacing a temperature control, firstly ascertain that it is in fact defective. If complaint is ?too cold? ? try a warmer setting and vice versa. Always check that the system is fully flooded and check that the sensing tube is in thermal contact in the sensing well. No more than 30mm of the sensing tube should show through the end of the well.

More information required. What is the product ID on the grey label on the bottom right of the cabinet when you open the door?

Have you transported the fridge recently?

My fridge keeps freezing everything what is the best temp to have it set at. It is an aurora model RB411M3

I recommend moving the thermostat to the exact center position, unplug, then plug in the refrigerator. Wait 24 hours for the fridge thermostat to reset and to thaw automatically. Then, I recommend a fridge thermometer, available at most grocers or kitchen supply stores. If you can't find one, use a digital thermometer with a probe. Place the thermometer hanging from the center of the center shelf. Keep the refrigerator temperature at or below 40° F (4° C). The freezer temperature should be 0° F (-18° C). Allow 24 hours for any thermostat changes.

Freezer side works fine but refrigerator side is freezing temp stays in 20's

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Hello,

Yes the thermister is the electronic thermostat...on models such as yours that has a computer control a thermister is used..on models that the knob is turned to set the temp. and has no digital dispay a thermostat is used

The part number for the thermister is 2188819
It fits by air damper in the fresh food compartment in the upper left corner of the fresh food compartment

If there is no cooling at all , before we go further we must confirm the first step of confirming the compressor and gas pressure. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost.
If there is no ice formation we have a big issue as the compressor and gas must be checked out. If compressor is running check the pressure, get help to test gas pressure. If not you will need to fill up ,If gas pressure is good the possibility of the compressor being inefficient is high. In such a case you must take consensus to estimate and decide, if RPM of motor is low check capacitor.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

My fridge temp is at 64 but my freezer temperature keeps dropping

If the freezer is not cooling as desired it is possible that the blower is blocked.

Now Shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.

Since the freezer is working the duct can be blocked . So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.

Refrigerator is not cold (50);freezer is working; vents not blocked. What can I do? Fan is working, & compressor does kick on.

Nine out of ten times it turns out to be a defrost issue. What most people dont understand is the refrigerator gets its cool air from the freezer. If the evaporator coil in the freezer becomes a block of ice then the airflow from freezer to fridge section is blocked. The block of ice along with already frozen foods in the freezer compartment help to keep those foods frozen. Therefore you assume the freezer section is fine. However, the lack of cool airflow to the fridge side quickly turns that 38 degree air into 50 degree air. You could try unplugging the fridge and leaving doors open for 24 hours, this will thatw the evap coil. Plug it back in after the 24 hours, and within 12-24 hrs everything should be cool. If the fridge continutes to cool for about 3-6 days and then fails again, you certainly have a defrost problem. This is long winded, but hope it helps
