This is most likely the flame sensor in the actual furnace and not the thermostat. Post the model of the furnace.

I have a carrier furnance model # 398AAV036060 serial # 0293A03686 it comes on for a few minutes the cuts off please help

Check for smell of gas first, call gas company if leak detected. May be a loose thermostat wire, dirty main control board, dirty/ lint filled gas tubes, mine had both. Cracked or dirty ceramic igniter (This is a BIGGIE!) or dirty flame sensor. Dirty fan sensor, or flame over sensor, and or burner safety sensors. Shut off power for 10 minutes, follow owner's manual to restart, wall thermostat might usually get set to lowest temp setting, then power turned on, then set thermostat to desired temperature?

Jandy lite 2 pool heater will not stay lit.

I'm having the same issue as the above user with Jandy Lite 2 (which from what I can tell stands for the number of times that you can get this POS to work annually)!
The unit LIGHTS OFF, but WON'T STAY LIT! Igniter engages, gas valve opens, unit lights, burns for 10 seconds, and flames out. Error code FL 2, after third attempt, already replaced the flame sensor....

On a gas dryer the heat normally only comes on for 30 seconds or until the drum temp reaches 160f at which time the flame is shut down by the cycling thermostat. The drum temp then starts to drop. When the drum temp reaches 105f then another blast of heat is issued for 30 more seconds. That is how they work. Put it all back together and trow a load in there.

The flame should cycle on for about 50 seconds on the first cycle and approx 20 sec each additional cycle. I would check your airflow out of the dryer it my be restricted not allowing the flame to pull through the burner tube causing the unit to "short cycle". Its not likely a thermostat issue but if you were to replace a thermostat I would replace the cycling thermostat should be part number 3387134. Hope this helps.

Pool heater gas fire lights up and turns off 10 secs later

Assuming you don't hear any banging noises, that cycle is by design. There is a fault. 2 possible causes are the ignition board is bad, or the ignition sensor is not returning a voltage indicating the flame is lit. Take this out and put the ignition piece on your stove flame. Check for voltage while on flame (DC millivolt setting on multimeter). Put one probe on ground other on sensor lead. If it doesnt have voltage this is bad. If you do, its possible your board is bad.

Check voltage at unit. Also check the 5 amp fuse in the unit. If this unit has a float switch in the drain line check that. Rus

Furnace runs OK, but blower runs again a few seconds later

Could be a defective thermostat in the plenum.
When a gas furnace shuts down the fan(blower) will run until the plenum cools to the safe range. Usually 1 and 1/2 minutes.
Intermittent operation is a defective thermostat or relay.
