No-- it should normally keep the pilot burning...
How about we learn a few things together, and see what to do next:
1.) Does it have a little device right next to (in the path of..) the Pilot flame, that is supposed to stay HOT (and thus be safe for the Pilot gas valve to stay open/'on')-- This is called a Thermo-couple.-- (Actually a very low voltage generator, that tells the gas valve it is safe to let gas flow.)
Here is a link to a Thermo couple for GloWarm heaters-- not sure if this is your exact model or not -- but it may help you know what I am talking about?)

2.) How old is the Thermo-couple?-- and is it dirty from soot build up?-- It can be polished-- that might help.
3.) THe Pilot flame needs to be just slightly in the path of the flame, so that it generates sufficient electrical power to keep the gas vale 'on'.

Any questions from the points listed above?
Hope this helps-- Mack B.

Sounds like a bad thermocouple. When they go bad, they won't open the gas valve when switched from pilot to on.

The pilot light was out on our gas heater, we relit it but the air is not warm after 20 minutes.

one thing the pilot does is to heat the thermocouple sensor so it can tell the gas supply valve to that there is a pilot and it can open safely. thermocouples do need to be replaced from time to time. they are around $10.00 and not terribly difficult to change. look for a metal cylinder in the path of the pilot flame. more rarely, the gas valve itself will need to be replaced. it is more expensive however.

Glo warm heater

the regulator IS not only the issue, but it's a major safety benefit,..the pilot flame is non adunstable..get a cheap regulator(like the ones for the outdoor bbq's)

Lighting a glo warm heater

Is this a new heater or have you had it awhile? If new, yuo may have air in the line that will need to be bled out. The heater has a gas valve with a pilot setting on it. Make sure the gas is turned on. Turn the knob to the pilot setting and depress the handle. Holding it down and at the same time, press down on the red button that sparks. You may have to repeat this a few times. Once the pilot lights, continue to hold down on the pilot knob for about 30 seconds. When uou release the knob, the flame should stay o. If it does not, replace the thermocouple. Once the pilot flame is steady, turn the gas valve knob to on.

We had a problem keeping the pilot light to stay on, and this site recommended that it could possibly be the thermocoupler that was causing our problems also. We ordered the thermocouple, put it on,hooked it back up and it worked great! Thank you so much.
