Follow the large alternator cable from the alternator to the isolator, this is where the voltage is directed, and it is most likely the problem,it allows the battery to be charged, but not used by the engine ,and vehicle accessories, and allows the vehicle battery to be charged and used by the vehicle.

SOURCE: xantrex 458 freedom....has stopped charging house

Fis\rst of all is the inverter supplying 120 VAC? when turned on?. If so the inverter seems to be working.I think your problem is in the truck alternator/charging system. The inverter is independent of this charger..

SOURCE: I have a xantrex 2000 watt freedom 458 freedom

this isn't an answer but i would like to just clear the water a little. how old is the unit? you say it the inverter works when on shore power ( 110v A.C. wall plug or 220 ) but it will not charge the batteries while hooked up to shore power? are you trying to use a generator to run the inverter and charge the batteries? I just need to a little more so i can better understand you problem and help you better
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

The battery compartment for your Seabreeze Motorhome is located under the entry steps to your RV. Open the door to your RV grab the first step and lift up and you will find the house batteries and chassis battery in that compartment.

Xantrex XPower PowerPack 300 will not charge even after replacing both battery and adapter. What else can I try?

Either charger has an issue or new battery is boogus. Check charger output for specs. Subject battery to a few discharge/charge cycles. If charger is definitely good and battery will not charge fully after a few cycles then you have confirmed that new battery is bogus.

The other thing to consider is that auxiliary batteries need charge while sitting, plugged in, which can be accomplished other ways.

If it shows NO external source, then this is most likely the best place to look to find out why not?

The Biggest problems with Inverters is Flat/Low/Bad batteries, Sometimes it pays to remove the batteries and charge then up remotely, and then replace them, fully charged, Now a fully charged 12 volt battery should have 13.8 V DC at the terminals with NO LOAD. If the battery only reads 12 V it is not properly charged.

I recently bought a used 2004 Fleetwood Discovery 39L with a Xantrex Freedom 458 system in it. The system worked (sort of) for the first few months I owned it, but now fails to charge the house batteries....

Hello,

It sounds as if your inverter has failed altogether. This failure could also be caused by power management having issues.

So far, I know that you have a 2004 Fleetwood Discovery 39L. If memory serves, this is a *30AMP* chassis, with 2 air conditioners, using an intellitec power management panel located above the driver position. If I am incorrect, please advise.

Buy a long phone cord or however long youneed. Run it temporarily to the remote board and the invertor. Make sure powrr is off during this stage. If this doesn't work the solution is probaly going tobe much tougher. See manual.

Your power converter is probably okay, since the lights are getting bright when generator runs (and probably when plugged into shore power). A coach that is as experienced as yours is probably going to have multiple wiring issues that have occurred over time. Corrosion on battery terminals is common, but so is not maintaining the batteries. Batteries are usually killed by not charging properly, discharging too deep, and not keeping them clean. The batteries can also be wore out, especially if they are more than a couple years old and spent a lot of time sitting in the back lot.

Start by looking at the cables located at the battery, as well as at the battery connection on the DC fuse block. Everything should be clean bright and shiny. If not, I would suggest loading a dremel tool with a brass brush, and clean all wires and connections individually. Make sure everything is turned off in the coach to minimize sparks. While you have the cables off, take a look at the date codes and check the water levels. Correct accordingly.

There is a possible problem that can be at the converter as well. When you supply power to the converter, a solenoid engages a switch that transfers power to the batteries, charging them. If this switch has failed, it will cause same symptoms since batteries are not being charged.

The chassis / starting battery may not be charged by the house charger at all, especially if there is a Emergency Start / E-Start / Boost button on the dash somewhere. The engine is able to charge the chassis battery and the house batteries through a big relay (looks like ford starter solenoid on coaches like yours).

If you drive down the road, and main battery doesn't charge, and house batteries don't charge, Look closely underneath your coach for a grounding problem as well as possible bad alternator. But, if your house batteries charge off the alternator, then your problem will likely lie in the switch on voltage converter. If chassis battery charges and house batteries don't, look for 30 amp fuse between house battery and relay on firewall of engine compartment.

Make sure you wear old clothing, wear eye protection, and gloves when around batteries, and also when using the dremel.
